Watering the Lawn...
When is the best time to water your lawn? some people have told me VERY early in the morning, like 4-5 a.m.... while others have said late evening is better (6-7 p.m.)
obviously, for those who do not have inground sprinklers w/a timer, late evening would be best. (i know I'M not getting up at 4 a.m to water the lawn, that's for sure)
anyway, when do YOU think is the best time to water the lawn??

Re: Watering the Lawn...
I've always heard morning...not necessarily 4 a.m. but 6 or 7 is sufficient. You aren't supposed to water during the day cuz the sun combined with the water can burn the grass, and not at nite cuz it can help fungus' to grow.
My Ex was a landscaper so I am full of useless grass information

I have heard both too. WHich is why we do both. But we do only have a front lawn right now, being that we are in a condo.

You can get battery operated timers (I think we got ours at Home Depot) for the spigot - the hose with the sprinkler attaches to it.

Re: Watering the Lawn...
our landscaper set ours up to go off at like 2am so that all the zones are done by the time DH gets in the shower at 5am. but i have been noticing mushrooms growing, so i wanted to ask him about switching it to the evening instead.

We do ours in the eveing, and mushrooms just started growing!!! Right now, like Christina, we have to do it in the evening after work with the $2.99 sprinkler. But we are getting our sprinkler system fixed next weekend so hopefully I won't have to worry about it anymore!

Re: Watering the Lawn...
I do mine at night, after sunset and we have had 0 problems.
I have heard as long as you don't do it during the hot sun, because not only will it evaporate there is something about how it will scorch the grass.

We have that timer as well. It works great. We have it set for both the front & backyard.

Re: Watering the Lawn...
Early in the morning so it has a chance to soak in befor the sun gets too hot. If the sun is up too much, the little beads of water will act like magnifying glasses and burn your lawn, flowers, bushes, etc.
But dont water in the evening too much because you will get a LOT of mushrooms all over the lawn after a while.

Re: Watering the Lawn...
We water ours between 4:00 and 5:30 am - six days a week if there is no rain.
If you are getting mushrooms, it may be a sign you are over watering the lawn.

We got them because we were watering at night. They were allll over! It was crazy! But as soon as we mowed the lawn they were gone and we dont water at night anymore.

Re: Watering the Lawn...
I water our lawn early in the morning too - I heard that if you do it later in the day the sun can burn it out, but I'm not too sure about that.
