Re: waving bye bye

Sounds like waving to me. Just because all the mechanics might not be there doesn't make it not waving. My guy waves backwards, but I consider it waving.

if your asking her to make bye bye and shes flapping her hand up and down, i think thats definitely considered waving. Chat Icon
My DS is 10.5 months and waves hi and bye and when i brought him to my doctors appt last week, she was shocked he was waving so appropriately (e.g she walked in and said hi to him and he waved hi back LOL). She said a lot of kids don't even do it till closer to a year. So it sounds like your DC is on the right trackChat Icon

my ped actually told me already that dd is ahead on her social skills- she smiled early, babbled early, started clapping at 7 months, and is already waving (if flapping counts) at 9 months. she also gives kisses to me and to pictures of babies. oh, and she started playing peek a boo- covering herself up- at about 6 motnhs. she is having whole conversations wiht her toys- babbles with tone already also and strings 2 consonants together, like ma-ba. HOWEVER, she is a little delayed with the physcial things, with her gross motor skills, but ped is not concerned, due ot her being ahead socially.

I hope you weren't offended by my response (the tone i got from this last post). I was just answering the question you asked (and making a correlation b/t our DC that they both wave and its appropriate)

Re: waving bye bye

Honestly - the communicative intent is there and she is responding socially to "bye bye" with the appropriate gesture. So yes, that is totally waving because the intent of waving and communicating bye bye is there! Chat Icon

They don't need to open and close their hand - my ped said just waving arm up and down - it is the intent to wave.

THat's a wave!!! I was told a lot of babies do that b/c its what they see when someone waves at them...

Caden does the arm flap...and when I thought about it all the kids wave BYE to him in the morning when they get on the bus..and basically that is how they are waving..b/c they exagerate a ton to get him to wave...
