We are adopting a German Shepard on friday!
We are adopting a 6 year old German Shepard on Friday. I am so thrilled and can't wait.
We already have a lab. Does anyone have any tips for me as to how to introduce the dogs and get her acclimated to her new surroundings?

Congrats, I have a 1 year old German Shepard and two mutts.
i would introduce them on neutral ground first, possilby outside in the yard...maybe take them for a short walk together?
Enjoy your shepard...and its so wonderful that you are adopting an older dog

Can you bring your Lab to meet the Shepard before you bring it home? Just to make sure they're "compatible"?
I agree that neutral territory is best. Even some random street corner somewhere.

Introduce them outside neutral territory.. And most important.. do not bring them into your home until you take them on a long walk together at least 30 min.. Best of luck!!!

THis is exactly what we're going to do. The owner was going to bring her over and I was going to meet them down the block with dog. I think my guy may be a little territorial for the first few minutes and then forget all about her.
I can't wait and neither can my oldest son!

just let them sniff etc & get to know each other...dont try to force anything. Im sure they will be fine, labs get along with everyone, right?

OOOHHHH...it couldn't have gone better. I thought my guy (Murray) would have done his growling thing but nope-he sniffed her and they ran throughout the yard together. It was so cute.
She is pacing the house right now so I have both of my sons playing so that we have some quiet time to let both dogs chill out.
The only thing is she hasn't eaten anything yet. Her previous owner said they feed her 2x/day but I didnt ask him if she ate for the second time. So I have some food out now for her. She's been sniffing but no eating.
I did feel really bad for her old owner. He looked sad-I can't imagine getting rid of a dog I've had for 6 years. But they HAD to b/c of their daughter's health.
So I'll take some pics tomorrow and share.
Keep your fingers crossed that all remains calm. Thanks!!
