We are looking at homes now and I have a question
My DH thinks I am nuts because I want all the bedrooms on the same floor. Does anyone feel the same way. It does kinda limit our search to either a split, ranch or colonial which are usually close the top of price range. Does anyone have a cape or another style where the bedrooms are spilt between two floors and you and your children aren't on the same floor. If so who sleeps where and was an ajustment for you in the beginning.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
I have 4BR colonial and I had the same wish of all the bedrooms being on the upper floor. I have a cousin that has a cape and her 2 kids are upstairs and she's downstairs. I guess a video monitor really comes in handy then.....

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
I have video monitor now and we have a slpit and he only spelt in his room for two nights and so far and it freaks me out as weird as it may sound. I keep picturing I am going to see someone take him from him crib (we have an alarm system so I know I shouldnt be worred). So I put him back in the bassinet in our room.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
I have a colonial as well and enjoy that all bedrooms are on the same floor. I have a few friends who have capes who struggled with moving a child to the the lower level once a second came a long. But depends on your personality. I have other friends who had no issue with it.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
we are purchasing a cape and have talked about this before.
We will keep the baby downstairs with us until the baby is maybe 7 or 8. Then we will move her upstairs.
Since there is only 2 bedrooms downstairs, when we have another one, we will have them share a room until they are old enough to go upstairs.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
You're definitely not nuts. I feel the same way.
We're in a cape now and we're all downstairs (my boys share a room). If, and that's a BIG if, we stay here, we plan to dormer in 2 years and make 4 BRs upstairs.
Good luck!

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
We also live in a cape. Right now it is fine because there are 2 bedrooms upstairs and we have one room and dd has the other. If we another child while living in this house we would most likely dormer to add another bedroom upstairs so we can all be together.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
You're not nuts, i'm not a parent, but when dh and I were looking for a home, I didnt want to make an offer on any home where the bedrooms weren't on the same floor, no matter how beautiful it was.

I don't think you're nuts. DH and I are looking for houses, and whenever we see a floor plan with the master on the 1st floor we move on.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
I absolutely wanted at least the master on the same floor as 2 other bedrooms. I didn't care if a guest room was on the main floor but I wanted to be on the same floor as my child.

Re: We are looking at homes now and I have a question
We have a high ranch and all BRs are on the same floor. i would love a split or a cape and have the kids BRs upstairs and ours downstairs. Its all a matter of what you prefer. I grew up in a ranch, all the BRs were on the same floor. If your BRs are upstairs make sure you have an emergency ladder!
