We booked our first family vacation and I have some questions
No canceling this one
So we are going to the Atlantis for 5 days in Nov. (happy birthday to hubby and I since we are 3 days and 6 days apart). We have a 1 bedroom suite and have the option of 2 double beds or 1 king. DS will be 3.5 yrs old and DD will be 2 and 4 months. We are getting a crib for DD but are unsure as to what to do with DS. Should we get the double beds so he has his own and we are in our own or a king and just let him sleep with us?
Our other dilemma is flying. The seats are 3 and 3. Do we get 2 and 2 or 3 and 1? We are flying with another family who has 1 child who is 9 so if we need to switch we can but I rather have some sort of plan before we go. I was thinking 2 and 2 since the kids seem to act better when DH and I are not together.
I am so excited for this trip. We haven't gone away together in 5 years!!

I'd get aisle/middle seat 1 row appart - or get 3 & 3 with the other family - adults and kids, mix, whatever.

Re: We booked our first family vacation and I have some questions
Here's what I would do Get the double beds, you guys should be able to sleep alone! Besides, DS will LOVE sleep in gin his own big bed! As far as flying is concerned, get the 2 and 2 (window aisle for both). Even if they are in different rows, you will be better off. It is unlikely that someone will book the middles unless the flight is full so you might have the luxury of the kids being able to lay down in 2 of the seats. If someone books the middle, you can always switch with them at the airport and move around later. If the flight is full and you did 3/1, one of you will be with both kids and the other alone. That will be tough...

Do I take the carseats on the plane? We are not leaving the resort at all.

As long as you won't need them to get to or from the airport, then no don't bring them. Your kids will be fine on the plane without them. Last time we traveled, we agreed that Jeremy no longer needs his on the plane. He is getting bigger and is comfortable on the regular seat. Maybe DD would sleep better but otherwise you should be OK. If you do need them at all, you could always check them (almost every airline will provide you with a plastic bag and check them for free)

We are going to the Atlantis in a couple months and will be bringing DS car seat for the plane. We are also bringing it b/c we will have to take a cab from the airport to the hotel and it is around a half hour drive. We wont use it once we get there as like you said we will be staying in the resort too, but I like having it for piece of mind If I had to bring 2 of them though, i may have changed my mind LOL

Re: We booked our first family vacation and I have some questions
For the beds, can you get a king and ask for a cot for DS?
For the seating, can you find a 4 seats next to each other separated by an aisle? So a middle and an aisle, and a middle and an aisle? Then maybe the kids can sit next to each other, but you and DH will still be right next to them. If not, I think 2 and 2 wherever, or split something with the other family.
For the car seat, if you will need it to get from the airport to the hotel and back, bring it.

Re: We booked our first family vacation and I have some questions
We travel a lot and love it-go and have a wonderful time!!!!!! I think its great you booked such a wonderful family trip! As for flights I would do the 2 and 2 seats they may be one row after the other and you are virtually together anyway but at least each kid will be with a parent. As for actual airline seats I know bringing a car seat is always an option but 2 may be a pain to juggle we actually purchased this one (CARES) for DS (who is now almost 3 but we have used it for quite some time and it fits in your purse! http://www.kidsflysafe.com/
In the hotel I usually get DS a bed (or pull out) and we purchased this pea pod bed for him-it is like a flip up tent with a mattress can be on floor or bed and DS sleeps alone.

Its your vacation too enjoy you don't need to share a bed! If you have a suite you prob have a fold out couch which would work so you can go for the king bed and use the fold out for DS with the pea pod and crib for DD and then during the day fold up the bed to have room. I love the tent bed it folds up and sets up quickly and is only like a pound -so much easier than a pack and play and can fit in the top of a large suitcase-comes with sleeping bag as well-I like it since I feel DS is safe and won't roll out of a bed being in the tent and sleeping bag. Also for DD crib I usually bring my own sheets I don't know why but I like to have my own not the hotel crib sheets. Have a great time. If you have any more questions FM me.
