We decided against...
Having the ultrascreen done.
After much careful thought and consideration, DH and I decided that it was not something that we wanted to do. I was amazed when my doctor said they only started doing this test about 3-4 years ago! It's still so new!
Not sure why I feel the need to post this, but there it is!!!

It's a personal choice for you and your DH. Nothing wrong with that.

I didn't do it either. All the tests are voluntary to be honest. You should do what you feel comfortable doing.

It is a personal choice between you and your DH.
But I just wanted to comment on this last part, all tests ARE voluntary, but if you discuss it with your doctor and they feel that you should be having a certain test, maybe you should even if it makes you uncomfortable.
I passed my 1 hour test, but my dr didn't feel my number was "optimal" so I went and took the 3 hour, did it stink? Yeah, it did, and I probably could have opted out of it, but I chose to take it because I felt it was better knowing if I had a problem.
Just remember you see your doctors for a reason and their advice and expertise is something you should bear in mind

Re: We decided against...
I wasn't going to do it either so I COMPLETELY know where you are coming from. The thing that changed my mind is when I found out that at my 12 wk appt I would not have a sonogram. Which would mean after the 8wk sono i would not have one again until 20 weeks and I just couldn't wait that long.
I have to say after having it done I am so so glad i did. It was such an amazing experience for me and DH I can't even begin to explain it. Seeing our llittle baby inside of me moving all around, rubbing its eyes with its little hands...it was just so amazing. I haven't gotten the results yet but right now I am so glad I did it. We pretty much decided though that we were doing it just for this reason and the results won't make us do anything we weren't going to anyway.
Just wanted to add my experience since I felt and still feel the same way as you about these tests.

Re: We decided against...
I opted against it as well. I figured that if there was something potentially "wrong" with the baby, I wouldn't terminate the pregnancy anyway, so I really didn't feel the need.

Re: We decided against...
We did it just to see the baby. No matter what the test results are we aren't going to do anything. We figured if there was something wrong we would now just be prepared.

Ditto - I only thought about doing it for the pictures.

Re: We decided against...
You should always do what you are comfortable with. Doctors can advise you but in the end you must make your own decisions. If you have no risk factors and are comfortable with your decision then I think it is great that you are doing what is best for you.

We also did it just for the pictures. My doodlebug would not cooperate and let them measure it's neck (which I was sooo happy about) but we lucked out by seeing the baby with two vaginal sonos and one belly sono in one day. They wanted us back and we just never went.
Do whatever you and your DH feel comfortable with!

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's just nice to know there are others out there who also didn't take this test!

Sometimes people take the test just to know. That does not mean they would terminate the pregnancy. They just want to get ready for what could come ahead.

ITA- I'd rather be prepared than deal with the terrible surprise at birth.....
I did the Ultrascreen because my doctor recommended it, she said the false positive rates are much lower then the Level II, and I knew I'd go for an amnio if things weren't on the up and up. While I understand the reasoning behind NOT doing the tests (false positives=unneeded worrying), lets all be VERY sensitive with this topic- as it's a very personal decision.
We should all remember that there ARE people who would/have terminated because they found out there was something very wrong- and that was THEIR very personal, heartbreaking choice.....

We wouldn't terminate the PG either but if something was wrong the baby we just wanted to be prepared. I wanted to make sure that I knew all I could about whatever if anything was wrong with him. And if we had to have special equipment etc to take of him.

I totally respect your decision, but I personally would want to do it. I would want to know regardless even if I I would not terminate the pregnancy in case God forbid something was wrong. If there is no harm to the baby in performing the ultrasound I see no reason in not having it done. JMHO.

Not to mention that it is a lot of fun and you get really great pictures to take home!
It is a completely non-invasive procedure, just a regular sono really, so I was totally for it! I love those!
