We got a letter form the IRS today...
saying that we didn't claim dividends on some accounts and did not include sales of some other secruties account in 2006. They said we owed them $2000 more on top of the thousands we had to pay them in 2006. I was so freaked! Turned out, it was a mistake and the social security numbers were mixed up on or securities accounts with someone else, so we do not owe. Thank goodness.

Thank goodness it was a mistake! I would be pizzed, though, that they screwed up the numbers.
You need a drink to relax... and some asparagus.

I got audited twice the past few months for two different years for the exact samething. I prooved them wrong and got it dropped.  Im sure they will have me flagged for the next few years.
Glad to hear you dont owe anything.

we got a similiar letter last week saying we owed $2500! thankfully we got the letter 2 days before we got our taxes done. my Accountant said she would take care of it for us. they had all wrong #'s anyway. even if we do owe, it would be a LOT less!

We got a letter like that over the summer and they said we owed them an additional $5600 from what we had already paid. After DH looked at everything it turned out we only owed them $126 and after paying that, we ended up getting a check back for the $126 because it turned out we didn't owe anything after all.

glad it worked out. DH and I are now prepping for an audit of our 2005 return.
They want us to show everything!
I've got to find receipts that are buried somewhere in this house!
I'm stressing big time!
