We got the approval for the town to take down our tree for $350/ea...

...but in this letter they say that any damage done to sidewalk will be our responsibility/cost to fix!! Also, we must get a permit from the highway department to plant another tree.

Questions: If the town took down your tree - did they end up damaging your sidewalk?
Is it a big ordeal to get another tree planted in its place?

My mom just had this done last year. It was only $50, but the week after she sent payment in it went up to $350. Her sidewalk was damaged when they removed the tree and she had to get it repaved afterwards. They actually checked up on it too, they marked the side walk and sent her several letters until she had it done, they threatened that if she did not have the sidewalk fixed in a timely manor, they would fix it and bill her, the jacked up price for them doing it. She paid my neighbor to repave for her. She didn't replant, so i don't know about another tree! Good Luck!!

My friends did...it was a huge pine tree, I mean huge. No damage to the sidewalk though.

ummm my town came and took down our tree and it didnt cost us anything. they didnt do any damage ( but we dont have a sidewalk)

Why must the tree come down in the first place? I wonder if it's occluding power lines or causing a hazardous condition, if the town will pay?

Or is it just for asthetics?

The tree roots caused the side walk to raise up. The damage was done before the tree was taken down. We had to pay for the town to take it down - we just missed the 50 price and had to pay the 350 and then we had to have our contractor fix the sidewalk.

Oh god....be careful. I submitted a request to have the town come and look at my trees b/c I thought they were diseased. When I got the letter back stating that we are responsble for the damage, blah blah blah, I decided to hold off. Well needless to say about a month later I came home from work and my trees were gone. I didnt even pay the money to have them taken down. When does the town ever do anything before they are paid????? But they didnt do any damage and they came back a couple days later and ground down the stumps.

wow, so you can have the town take down trees and not have to get a private tree service? or is this only for trees right on the edge of your property?
