We need lots of prayers....(update #8 8/13)
I'm sure this will get moved, but I'm trying here 1st....
I am asking you all for some serious prayers....
My FIL was rushed to the hospital on Tues. He had been doing a walkathon, walked off the line for not feeling well and collapsed....hit his head VERY hard on the ground. They *thought* he had a heart attack...he was shocked...and brought to the hospital.
Tests have shown that he did not have a heart attack and all cat scans have come back ok.
He is on a ventilator and he has been unresponsive since he collapsed. They can't find what's wrong. He has been sedated, because he has been gagging on fluid and some blood from where he had bit his tongue 
No one seems to have answers and as of now they're waiting for a neurologist to come back with some tests to check the brain activity etc. and to hopefully shed some light on why he's not waking up.
Please pray for my DH and our family.
He just lost his Step-father this past April and it's breaking my heart that he's going through this with his father now.
Thank you all. I truly believe in the power of prayer...so thanks for thinking of us.

Thank you ALL for your prayers....they seem to be working, so our family really appreciates you keepin us in your thoughts....
DH called and said that they haven't come back with the EEG results yet from the neurologist. He said that he seems to be much more repsonsive. He is opening his eyes and making a smirking noise in response to things that they're saying...so we're hoping he's beginning to come out of it 
Update #2 -
Not much more to tell  he is still being sedated, he is still on the ventilator. He is becoming more responsive, but the fact that he's so sedated is most likely the reason. His EEG and all tests have come back AOK, so that is wonderful news. The cardiologist saw him and said that they *might* turn off the vent to see how he does and if all is ok, then they can take it out, which mean no more sedation. But as long as the vent stays in, he will be sedated because I guess he's trying to get it out and getting agitated still. He seems to be on the mend and coming to somewhat.
It's just this vicious cycle right now bewteen the ventilator, the sedation, etc...

Update #3 -
**sigh** I went and saw him last night....I just don't know what to say. According to the Dr's now there is some swelling on the brain and slow brain activity They took him off the ventilator today, so my DH said he seems much happier about that. Last night DH told me that he squeezed DH's hand with the right side hard and on command, so that was a huge positive.
But when I saw him last night  I just cried. He's responsive to a point. He doesn't seem to focus when he opens his eyes...he has movements and they are strong...but he's just so out of it and there was no sedation yesterday, so what I saw was him He will make a smirk/smile when you say something funny and at the appropriate times...so there's something going on...but not much.
It's all the waiting game right now and we just don't know.
It's all just so devastating

I got a few positive text messages from DH tonight He said that Dad is talking (i don't know to what extent...not much I'm sure) and understanding much more. He said he was very happy.
SO...prayers are WORKING!! Thank you all so much

Thank GOD! He seems to be coming around I spoke with DH last night and he was VERY happy...I could hear his spirits had been lifted. He said my FIL is aware...trying to speak, there are words but it's slightly mumbled, but they understand what he's saying....he's got lots of movement, is recognizing everyone...Oh thank god....This is going to be a slow process because there is obvious damage to the brain. To what extent, we just don't know because he does seem to be getting better and better every day.
The 1st responder came to visit him She was telling DH that he was flatlined for about 7 min. They brought him back to life
It's amazing to me what these people do...their job is just amazing and I'm giving a HUGE shout out to all those people who do work in the medical profession. It's not always the easiest and I'm sure we've all gotten pizzed at our share of Dr's, nurses, EMT's, etc...but wow....When they do the job, they sure do it.
So for now...things are looking good...we're headed in the right direction. I know your prayers have helped and I have an enormous amount of love and thanks for all of you who took the time out to say a little prayer for my FIL and the family 
Update #6 -
And now we're back down again. As DH keeps saying...it's the emotional roller coaster....
So there is brain damage they called for a 2nd EEG sooner than usual. His movements are slow...and his "talk" is mumbled...not making sense. (DH needs to be a little more accurate when he texts me )...He'll recognize one of them at one point, then doesn't the next...will recognize one but not the other...he thinks he was brought in yesterday...just isn't remember well.
He is being transferred to another hospital where they will put in somethng for his heart condition so this doesn't happen again...then while he's there they will deal with the neurological damage.
But DH is now back down and very sad...he says it just doesn't look good right now.
I keep telling him it's just the beginning and it can be a VERY slow process and rehabilitation...so
So we're back on the down slope again...still needing prayers
Update #6 -
He has been transferred and settled in at a WONDERFUL new hospital. DH is VERY happy and really likes the DR. They are pretty much starting from scratch here...kind of wiping out what they did over at Nassau (which, ugh..that hopsital) He had a cat scan yesterday...he's having an MRI today. There seems to be *something* on the brain. His short term memory is damaged as well as the right side. The DR was doing ALL sorts of tests on him. Says his heart is VERY strong, so now the ?'s are beginning on what really happened? What caused the fall? What caused the heart to stop? What is causing the brain damage?
We seem to be starting from square one at the new hospital....so I'll keep posting about all the *new* info we're getting with all the new tests.
Update #8 - 8/13 :
FIL is still in the hospital but going through LOTS of physical therapy and testing. He had another MRI last night and the results should be back today. He is improving every day little by little, coming back to himself, even though there is obvious damage to the brain.
His short term memory has been off. They were having to tell him the same story every day...if you've ever seen 50 First Dates with Drew Barrymore, DH was *kind of* relating it to that. His speech is still slurred and mumbled...but he's been up and moving. Coordination and mobility is off.
But every day seems to get better and better. Like he wasn't asking about his dog yesterday and remembered that they had put him down. So, things are clicking and we're hoping with the physical therapy, he'll continue to come back 100%
Again, it's going to be a long recovery, but we're all hopeful.

I am sending so many prayers your way...I know how hard this must be on all of you and the not knowing is the worst part. You know how I feel about a certain hospital...I'm not sure if that's where he is, but if so....maybe they could transfer him?
