Thank you all for your support and prayers...
Yesterday was a not so good day. They told us that they do NOT feel it's a virus since his white cell and protein levels were "normal". That means it is either a demylinating disease (breaks over myelin Sheath of spinal cord) like Multiple Scelerosis or some sort of random, hopefully isolated instance of a demyelinatng event...either way worse than a virus.
They started DH on physical therapy, with range of motion exercises. where they move his legs and try to get him to sit on the edge of the bed, and stand up. He couldn't stand, and could barely sit up without assistance. It was quite defeating for him.
They took him for another MRI in the evening to see if there were spots on his brain, which would indicate MS. We had to wait for this morning to get those results...talk about a rough night!
This morning we found out, it is NOT MS, that the MRI of his brain looked good and showed no spots....Good news!! What they're calling it is Transverse Mylenation...basically some random event that made the body attack itself in the spinal cord and put pressure on it. The neurologist seems optomistic, and his right leg is a bit stronger today, which is a good sign.
We''re looking at a long road to recovery...several weeks of in patient therapy hopefully starting next week sometime (and hopefully back in New York)...and potentially months of out patient rehab. Best case scenario - he will walk again and have bladder function again as he did before. Worst case - he remains as he is now.
There's a lot to figure out as we live in a 2nd floor co-op, so living in our home is likely not an option...and Short Term disability doesn't pay much, so things are going to be tight. But i am confident that with the strength of our family and friends, we'll get through this. Please keep us in your prayers and I will keep you updated on any developments....

Wow! That's so scary to think something like that can just happen and not be triggered by a disease or virus. I hope the PT works and he's back on his feet!!!

I pray that he makes a full recovery. You sound like you are very strong, which is exactly what he needs at this time

I'm glad that it's not MS but I'm sorry you're still faced with so much. I hope that your DH is able to make a full recovery.

Hi Amee!
Im really hoping and praying that things work out well. Another common illness which can be easily corrected but often goes undiagnosed is Guillain Barre Syndrome. Just a suggestion to ask the docs about.
Again, Im praying that your DH is okay. If there is anything i can do to help please let me know.

Hi ladies - I had posted an update yesterday, but it crashed before it went through...
DH is doing better but we are ina massive fight with the insurance company trying to get back to rehab in NY.
They're telling us that might approve transport for him, but they've had the paperwork for almost a week...then another person there tells us they'll only fly to the nearest facility...whicih would have all of the necesary doctors out of network...which means out of pocket for us...
Sorry if this doesn't make sense - we're both super stressed out...
