we started baby food and..
its been a week and so far we have tried applesauce, bananas and only one feeding of peaches. She has been miserable since she started the food a week ago and this is just a flashback to when she was colic and we had to switch her formula to finally end up on nutramigen. Could she now be having a hard time digesting the baby food? She is on beachnut. Any help is really appreciative.. im going crazy dealing with her crying 24/7.

You've done that much in 1 week? I was told to give 1 thing for 3-5 days to make sure there was no reaction. You may have overloaded her little system!
I'd slow down

I was going to say the same thing. The rule of thumb we usually hear is to introduce 1 new food every 3-4 days before starting a new one. Maybe if you just stick to applesauce first for several days and see how that goes?

Re: we started baby food and..
its been a little more than a week, oops. We did the applesauce first for 4 days, bananas for 3 days, and just one feeding of peaches. The doctor said 2-3 days for each one. Hmm..

Have you considered making your own babyfood? I made my own and one time had to try to give DS jarred carrots. He refused to eat them.
There are some great websites for making your own food and it is really easy!

Re: we started baby food and..
DS always had a reaction to peaches until he was about 8 months.
do just 1 food for a few more days, like applesauce, and see how she is. Has anything else in her diet changed?

I still think that is too much. And bananas can be binding, as can apples, so maybe that is the issue?

Re: we started baby food and..
she was totally find the week before until this baby food mess. Maybe 2-3 days is too little of time.. i dont know. She didnt really like the applesauce or the bananas but loved the peaches today. (i craved peaches throughout my whole pregnancy, maybe thats why haha) I just wonder because she has to be on the hypoallergenic formula to begin with, so is this messing her up? I think I should just quit the baby food all together and look into getting organic fruits and stick to each one for about a week. Hows this sound? Im SO frustrated. When she is awake, she is a nightmare and we are both in tears.

Maybe she's too young? A lot of people don't start solids until 6 months. Did you start with cereal first?

Re: we started baby food and..
Your daughter and my son were born on the same date. So far, I am only feeding him rice cereal. My pediatrician said no fruits or veggies until he is 6 months old. I think maybe it is a little early for these foods and so many kinds.
My pediatrician recommended starting with Stage 1 single grain cereals (rice first, then oatmeal, etc) and spaced 1 week apart. Good luck, I hope you can work it out!

Re: we started baby food and..
To me it sounds like she might not be ready for food. I would hold off a few more weeks/months.
We skipped baby food and went straight to table foods with both my girls. My first DD was 7 months old when she started (we held off because she was miserable after she ate baby food) and my second DD didn't eat any food until 8 months old (before that she would gag on even breast milk on a spoon but she woke up one day and wanted some table food and has been on them since).
There is no need to rush solids. They only NEED breast milk/formula for the first year, so don't feel rushed to push it.

ITA. We had tried giving DD solids at 4 months but after a few days we knew that we started to early. We stopped and waited until 5.5 months and it made such a huge difference. Just because you've started, doesn't mean you can't stop.

ITA. My DD did GREAT with baby food at 4 1/2 months (she was also on Nutramigen for a milk allergy), so I really don't think it has anything to do with her formula.
DS is 4 1/2 months now and HATES it. It definitely gives him the poops and a belly ache. We are stopping for a while and will try in a month.
Just stop for a couple of weeks. See if your DD feels better.

Re: we started baby food and..
Did you start with cereal. Like other's have said, formula is enough right now nutrition wise and the AAP and WHO both don't even recommend solids of any kind until six months old. I would probably stop giving them to her and try again at a later time.

Re: we started baby food and..
Gavin is 6 months and 3 weeks and I am not consistent with the baby food. At around 4 months I tried cereal and then every so often gave him bananas and sweet potatoes.
But then I noticed my milk supply dropped, so I stopped and now he only really gets solids the 3 days I work when I am not around to nurse him.
My gut feeling as of right now, is he doesn't really need it or want it. He needs the BM more.

Re: we started baby food and..
I would say slow down! There is really no rush for solid foods. My dcs didn't start solids until they were 6.5 months and that was only cereal for 3 weeks. Then I slowly added in pears and apples.
Their digestive systems are so sensitive, any little upset can cause then discomfort.
I would also say that making your own food is helpful because it is just the veggie and formula. If not, then Earth's Best is a good option.
Good Luck!

Re: we started baby food and..
I started with rice when ava was 3 months. (My ped. said to start her even earlier b/c of her reflux but I waited) She loves the rice cereal and I mix it in a bottle and she has been on the rice cereal for a month now and has it everyday. We also introduced oatmeal.. again, all single grain. So the cereals are going well and have been.
After reading all these responses, I think I plan on holding off on baby food for at least another month or so. I thought we *had* to give her baby food since the ped. said.. but Im just going to stick to her formula and rice cereal for awhile longer.
Thank you all SO much for your support :)
