we started CIO last night for the first time

DS is 5 months old and still wakes up at least once a night to eat. we've been slowly cutting it down from 6 oz to 2 oz.

last night i decided enough was enough. when DS woke at 1am, i picked him up, gave him a kiss, sang him his favorite song and put him back in his crib. he was hysterical. i went to him and patted his back every 10 minutes ago. this went on for over an hour. DH got up to help at around 2am.

finally at 2:30 he started to wind down and put himself to bed. he fell asleep at 3am and woke up at 8am (which he never does).

so tonight we'll try it again. i just hope he does like the books say and won't bother getting up in a few days because we're not feeding him.

we're so tired today already!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hear yah... My DS is 4 months, and wakes up between 1-3 it does not matter if his last feeding was at 7pm or 10pm. maybe i need to start cereal and then he would sleep through the night??. I almost feel bad that i am starving him, if he wakes up and i am not feeding him. Have you started cereal???.

Good luck! DD is 5 months too! She was sleeping through the night at 2.5 months but then a month ago started waking up in the middle of the night. We didn't feed her, no picking her up, I rubbed her back, stroked her hair, and she feel back to sleep on her own, we did that for 2 nights and she has not wokem up since, she sleeps now 7:30 -6:30...good luck!!!!! stick it out and you will be much happier for it! Again, best of luck!!!!

I think at 4 months he still needs that night feeding. My DS is 4 1/2 months and still gets up between one time between 4 and 6 am to suck a bottle down, then goes back down. And he is on cereal. I def think that is a myth, that they will sleep longer if they have cereal. It just magically happens one day! It's exhausting but he will sleep longer soon enough!Chat Icon

we started cereal and fruits at 4 months with the hope it would help his sleeping. it didn't at all.Chat Icon

my DS acts as if he's STARVING when he wakes up, but because he has slept through the night twice, we know he doesn't *need* the feeding. last night he was screaming bloody murder, but i didn't give in. it was hard, but i know he's not starving because he's a little porker!Chat Icon

thanks everyone for the good wishes! this just has to work!!! we can't keep getting up in the middle of the night when we know he doesn't need to eat at this age.

and this morning, he doesn't remember any of it. he's laughing and smiling!

Chat Icon Chat Icon thats gotta be hard... i definitely dont think he needs the feeding... Raylee has been sleeping through the night pretty consistently since halloween... now she is a bit over 4 months and her last feeding is around 7-7:30 and she falls asleep around 8, and wakes up around 6ish- these past few days at home, she has been waking up closer to 7, and doesnt even want to eat until around 9... and she is a porker as well- you gotta see the chunk on her thighs!!! Do you think Andrew is eating enough during the day??
