Wearing a girdle/binding after birth? Yes or No? Please help!!!!!! TIA

I have 2 conflicting pieces of information and would like to have you ladies help me!

I have 1 source saying that when I get home from delivery that I should wear a long girdle (the one with shorts) and then a thing around my stomach over that, along with a sports bra and a thing over that, for quite some time after birth to "suck it all back in and keep it there".

Somebody else just told me yesterday that the bra thing is good up until the milk stops coming in, which helps with engorgement (I completely understand and agree) BUT she says that girdle thing is ALL wrong and that her Dr. told her that's the WORST thing you can do!!!! She said that the Dr. said that it holds you in and prevents your muscles from naturally contracting and then you will have a pooch.

Which piece of info. is right? This is so confusing!!!! TIA!

I wore a girdle after all my 3 babies (it started right below my boobies and it was an underwear. I also have a waist cincher that worked great.

I have a nice and flat tummy.

All the women in my family have done it for as long as I can remember. I remember being given my first girdle by my grandmother to use afterwards.

I started wearing mine right after I gave birth in the hospital.

I also used tight sportsbras to stop producing milk.. I stopped a few weeks later. Make sure if you take hot showers, to NOT face the hot water. It'll make you produce milk.

GL!

I wore a maternity belt bought from medical supply store, recommend by my physical therapist. I would think a girdle would do the same thing, but the belt is much easier to put on and take off.

I should have worn it more, but I wore it for only a few hours a day. I wore spanx all the rest of the time, because it felt good to hold in all that loose skin after birth.

I really think it helped make skin a lot tighter, I probably would even get better results if I was more disciplined with the belt.

I started wearing a band right after I gave birth in the hospital and for 2/3 weeks after. It was annoying at times but it kind of held it all together.

Same here! Wore it as soon as I got home from hospital, kept it on 24 hours a day - and TOTALLY helped pull everything in and back, nice flat tummy again. Plus made me feel better to see a WAIST again when I looked in the mirror. My mom did this after she had us, as did my grandmother - so I highly recommend it!

I wore a cheap girdle form walmart about 2 sizes too small and I was in my prepregancy clothes at 8 days post birth. I have no pooch above my c-section scar...best.thing.ever.

Wow, thank you all for your success stories! Now, do girdles help with stretchmarks or am I scarred for life? :(
