Weather for Thursday and Friday- Along with Tropical Storm Nicole (UPDATE THURS EVENING)
This will be brief as I have a lot on my plate right now. I also might have a lot of run-on-sentences. Bear with me with my blunt discussion.
Thursday looks like crap. LOTS of rain, spreading into the area overnight tonight, remaining through the day and evening and into Friday. It will also be windy, really windy. Roots of trees will be soaked, meaning wind gusts could topple a tree much easier than in dry conditions. So, I say don't park under a tree.
If your area tends to flood, chances are it will flood. Even if your area doesn't normally flood, it could quite possibly flood with this amount of rain. Don't sleep in the basement.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the chances of severe weather in the area of Thursday afternoon/evening. So stay tuned to your local National Weather Service office. If you get text updates, do it. If you don't, I won't be here to help hold your hand.
If you see a thunderstorm coming, don't be the idiot on the news saying you didn't know the storm would be THAT bad. I truly wanted to slap the woman who was outside during the last tornado outbreak and said she had no idea she should bring her kids in from the street. IT IS A THUNDERSTORM!!! Did you want them out there holding onto a big metal pole? Bring them inside! Sorry the storm had a tornado with it. Didn't realize your kids would still be playing outside anyway.
If Thursday is your 'like to smoke crack day', maybe you should change it. The kids will be inside and don't need to see it.
Here is the forecast for amount of rain (Personally, I can see these numbers changing for higher amounts as the next 12 hours progress and Thursday goes on):

Friday can begin looking crappy, but end up okay. How fast will it become okay? Depends on how fast the remnants of TS Nicole can sucked up the East Coast. If you want to get your straws out again to suck it up faster, go right ahead.
Weekend looks fine. Don't fret over your uncle's friend's polka band's outdoor recital.

UPDATE THURS 5:30pm
We missed most of the rainfall today, HOORAY!
Unfortunately, you all didn't go out with your straws and suck the next 'storm' fast enough. Think of this storm as a checkout lane at Walmart. The belt moves the merchandise closer to the cashier. (Merchandise=rain and cashier=where you live) The belt has been stationary today. The person behind you in line (ie: next wave of merchandise) decided to leave a lot of room between your merchandise at theirs. The cashier is now moving the belt to get to the next merchandise.
Now the belt will begin to move East, just slightly later than expected. (Of course, in Walmart they can't do this. So now my analogy sucks.) This helped NYC and LI stay dry this afternoon.
THE VERY GOOD NEWS IS: This is the time that the massive severe storms were expected. But the sun never came out in most places. Think of the atmosphere as a pot of water. The sun is the gas burner that makes the water boil. Boiling atmosphere means those damn thunderstorms that pop up out of nowhere. (Try to watch a pot of boiling water on the stove. Try to predict where the first 10 bubbles will break the surface. Remember that every square inch of your pot is equal to a full county.)
What the hell am I talking about? The merchandise belt is coming closer. There are some breaks between large quantities of merchandise Most rain will now fall overnight and into tomorrow. When will it end tomorrow? I wouldn't make outdoor plans in the morning. Outdoor plans in the afternoon? You've got a shot.

Clarification: The rain is traveling North on I-95. Tonight it will be following a path further East. It will take the path right over us. As long as the pathway stays open, it will continue to suck all the moisture it can from the south. And there is a lot of moisture there. All that moisture will dump over NYC and LI tonight and into early tomorrow.
But look at the radar loop I posted. You can see the path all the moisture is taking. Now shift that path East. Lots of moisture still coming for us.
