Wedding in NJ Tomorrow UPDATE
Nope, would not go. And honestly anyone with a brain and a modicum of education would understand why you backed out at last minute.

THIS. Also, with all the precautions, wearing masks, distancing, wiping everything down...by the time you do all this...is it going to even be a fun wedding? It a buzz kill. If I were that couple, I wouldnt even have a wedding reception...

Yeah plus if you disregard all those precautions and people don’t wear masks, I would feel terrible if I was hosting an event such as a wedding and one of my attendees or more got sick with Covid. Like I think of those recent sweet 16s that became super spreaders and shut down schools… Is a party for a few hours worth possibly being called a super spreader event and getting people sick and spreading it further to communties? I get it, everything sucks right now and we want to live, but cases are surging. Especially NJ. 3k cases just today.

Wedding in NJ Tomorrow UPDATE
Sorry, I don't think I'd go. I'd feel bad declining and would still send a gift, of course.

Re: Wedding in NJ Tomorrow UPDATE
I really feel for anyone trying to have a large event like this that was planned far in advance.
A good friend had to postpone his wedding from July to October and then again to July 2021. The catering hall was not easy to deal with at first and was holding his money hostage. He wasn't even asking for it back, he just wanted a different date and they gave him a hard time for weeks. They ended up doing a small ceremony last month without the big party so they could at least start their lives.
So when people go through with events like this I wonder if they know a lot of people won't come but they've invested so much money that has become nonrefundable they figure whatever - whoever shows, shows.
I hope the couple would be understanding to anyone who doesn't show because of what's happening. I don't think it's rude under the circumstances - these are not normal times and people have to put their own family first if they have taken a more cautious approach.

There a huge difference between leaving your home for things that are necessary, going to work or even going places with a much more controlled environment than a wedding. Different people have different comfort levels with different environments. Thinking a wedding reception is too risky is far from thinking anything out of your home is too risky.

This is an absurd comment. There is a huge difference between going grocery shopping, going to school, etc, then there is going to a wedding with a large amount of people who will likely be unmaked indoors.

I would go, and take these precautions.
Load up on 1000 mg of vitamin C before and after. Take some zinc also.
Bring alcohol wipes and use them after shaking hands, before eating, to wipe off your phone throughout the night.
Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unclean hands.
If it's a buffet, use a napkin to touch the handles.
These are all of my pre-pandemic "things", and I've been doing them the past 8 months.
Have fun!!
This is great advice and stuff we should all be doing all the time, like you do. My concern for OP would be that it’s all for nothing if she and her family don’t wear masks or truly stay many feet away from others.
Considering the room holds up to 400 ppl and she’ll only have 60, I’m pretty sure she’ll have more chances in getting covid by going to the supermarket.

What is the difference between an essential leaving their house or kids playing sports or having parties and bbqs and slumber parties?

The difference is masks are required in supermarkets. People get very relaxed when they are around family and friends. There are more than 160,000 brand new cases and climbing in our country today. Everyone has to be cautious if we want this to ever stop. No one wants another lockdown, but no one really wants to do the work to prevent one.

Re: Wedding in NJ Tomorrow UPDATE
I saw ur update and I’m glad u’re going to the wedding. I can only imaging how many people will be canceling at the last minute so I’m sure seeing ppl in their wedding will make them really happy. U said the room holds up to 400 so there will be more than enough room to keep social distance. It’s needless to say u’ll be careful. Have fun and even if it’s only for a little bit forget the craziness that’s happening in the world. Enjoy!

Exactly. I wonder is all these people have not done anything for months. Sad as life is too short to stop it for a virus that has a 1% death rate. People need to stop listening to the media who wants to scare them.

How many are false positives? You will never hear that as many many people are told they are positive and then told ooops they are wrong. People need to take care of themselves more. If you need to be told to wash you right hands that is a problem right there. Eat healthy at normal times and get sleep and some vitamin D.

My DH has cancer and hypertension. We haven't done anything for months. Why? Because whatever the death rate, the chance is too great to take with his life. And there are too many people who say the number of cases is a lie, go live your life, the media is trying to scare you etc who don't wash their hands, don't wear masks and don't keep their effing distance.
The remarks you made remind me of my mother's oncologist (who I didn't like) that stopped her chemo when she broke her leg. He said it would take her broken bone longer to heal and she might not walk again and be stuck in a wheelchair if he continued the chemo. My thought was better to be alive and enjoy her grandchildren while in a wheelchair, then dead with a completely healed bone she would no longer use. Of course, that's what happened, and less than two months after the chemo stopped because of the oncologist who refused to continue her treatment while she was healing.
If you feel like you can live with yourself if you contract Covid and give it to a family member who then dies - bravo for you and your remarkable ability not to feel guilty.

I think the media increases the fear mongering. If you stop listening to them, be careful like you normally would with someone who is immune compromised then you can live.

Did they get two tests? Is that how they know they were false positives? Was it a lab error which was later corrected?

How many are false positives? You will never hear that as many many people are told they are positive and then told ooops they are wrong. People need to take care of themselves more. If you need to be told to wash you right hands that is a problem right there. Eat healthy at normal times and get sleep and some vitamin D.
False positives are rare. False NEGATIVES are common with the rapid test. Do you check any reputable sources? I mean science sources not media/FB?
These are real people I know who were false positive, not something I heard in the media.
How many? You make it seem like false positives account for hundreds of thousands of people.
Did they get two tests? Is that how they know they were false positives? Was it a lab error which was later corrected?
Yes I’m curious how a false positive would ever be classified as false??
