wedding related question

Was hoping someone could help me Chat Icon

A woman I was speaking to said that she went to a bridal store in NJ and wanted to try on bridesmaid dresses but they wanted to charge her $25.00 to try on! Is this normal? I have been to shops in NY and never heard of this....

Re: wedding related question

no way. I'm in the middle of this right now, and its always free to try on samples!!!

I have heard of places taking a deposit to hold your appointment time to try on the dresses, but that's refundable. Chat Icon

Re: wedding related question

It doesn't sound right to me either -- just wanted to make sure before I questioned her about it.

Re: wedding related question

The only thing I can think of that remotely comes close to that is the bridal store in NYC that charges $50 if you DONT show up for your appointment. But just to try dresses on sounds ridiculous.

Re: wedding related question

I have heard of, for example Kleinfeld takes your CC number and puts a hold on $50 but if you show up, it's released, but not charging for the appontment itself. Maybe she's mistaken? If not, time to go to another store!

I remember that the Macy's in the Menlo Park Mall (NJ) charged me $10 per girl to take their measurments.

Then, the girls actually found out that they were given the wrong hip measurements. I was so pizzed, I wanted my money back from Macy's and it became a BIG thing- I had to get the store manager involved, but I got my money back.

But since Macy's was taking their measurements, I'm assuming they were going to purchase dresses from there - right? Do you think they'd ask for money JUST to try on dresses??

Re: wedding related question

That's insane -- how is that good business when it's free to try on elsewhere?
