Wednesday QOTD (early again.. )
I have been posting these the night before since I am in a rush in the morning and otherwise wouldn't get to post till after 4!
Anyway......... do you get annoyed by these kinds of people...... people who dismiss your experiences because there are people who have it much worse.
For example, I was venting to someone at work recently about the fact that we might not get the house we're in contract for. All she could say was that it should be the least of my worries because there are people who are in much worse situations .. and then made reference to the earthquake in Haiti.
Yes, I understand there are terrible things out there. It's a scary world. There's hate.. war.. cancer.. natural disasters, etc..... but that doesn't mean my feelings are not justified. I can still experience being upset and sad about relatively 'minor' stuff. I CAN sweat the small stuff and that OK! We're all human.
I just get so annoyed by comments like that, when the person makes it like your feelings are totally unjustified since it could always be worse. I'm thankful for everything I have, but hate being told I shouldn't feel sad, or annoyed about something that's upsetting to me.
KWIM? Anyone else ever been told something like this and gotten annoyed by it?

This absolutely bothers me. I am a big believer in stuff like this being relative. If my biggest worry is breaking a nail, it's still MY biggest worry. Yes, we should all be grateful and remember there is always someone worse of then us but not to the point where we can't have our own feelings validated. JMO of course!

Absolutely!
It's bad enough when you get it from friends and acquaintances, but I find myself getting it the most from family, especially my mom. I realize that in relative terms, things are going pretty well in my life. But that doesn't mean I need you dismissing me every time I have anything in the least bit negative to say! And then I inevitably end up feeling crappy for complaining and feeling bad about myself

Of course we all know things could be worse but that doesn't lessen the sadness, stress, *insert feeling here* that we are feeling. When we tell someone something, it's b/c we need to get it off our chests. It's b/c we want someone to empathize with what we are going through. I wish ppl would just listen instead of feeling the need to comment b/c often times the comments make you feel worse. :(

I hate that! People who make comments like that bug me. Everyone has their own "why me?" moments and we are all entitled to them! Just because others have it worse doesn't mean that we are not entitled to have feelings or sadness, anger, bitterness, etc at whatever situation we may be going through, no matter how insignifigant others may see it.
