Weekend getaways, not too expensive, driving distance
Dh and I want to take a weekend get-away, someplace in the tri-state area, this spring. Not looking for anything expensive, just someplace that we can have a little R&R and have some fun things to do. We were thinking about the jersey shore, hamptons, or somewhere in CT. Anyone have any ideas about a cute hotel or B&B? Also list some things to do in the area.

What about Vermont??
We went three years ago to Cape Cod and Marthas vineyard. We had a good time and it wasn't a bad drive at all.

How long of a drive is it?

The Berkshire region of Mass. is very nice. There is the Norman Rockwell Musuem and The Red lion historic Inn. I'd say it's about 2 1/2 hours away.
One hour north of there is the Yankee Candle Village which was a lot of fun.

Re: Weekend getaways, not too expensive, driving distance
We just booked Boston for the weekend of our anniversary. We are staying 15 miles out of downtown and got a great rate from Hotels.com. The room was 109.00 a night at a Marriott!. To me it did not matter if we were 15 miles away. I find I cannot sleep well when we stay in the center of a city, it is too noisy. I am excited about going, there seems to be a lot to do. The dring is about 5 hrs, but it will give me and DH quality time to talk in the car. HTH

Re: Weekend getaways, not too expensive, driving distance
we've stayed HERE a few times. its in NJ down near AC. its kind of in the middle of nowhere, but its about 25-30 minutes from AC, so you can head there to go to the boardwalk, beach, and casinos and everything. the hotel also has 2 nice restaurants right there... you can take the winery "tour" ( kind of lame, but the wine tasting part is fun!). you can also go the little town of smithville to walk around and look at some antique shops...

What about Mastic, CT? We have stayed at the Steam Boat Inn and really enjoyed it.

I love Newport, RI. You can visit the mansions, the town is adorable with lots of little stores to shop in, and there are good restaurants.
