Weekend in NYC...suggestions?

I'm planning DH's b-day and have come up with the idea of spending the weekend in the city.

His b-day is a saturday night - so far i've come up with Dinner at Bolo or Mesa Grill (both are Bobby Flay restaurants, who DH really likes), and then a comedy club - probably Caroline's but I might look into Dangerfields - depends on location. Caroline's is near Rockefeller Center.

I'm having trouble making plans because there are so many options.

1. I need a hotel - of course there are hundreds of hotels in the city - has anyone had an awesome experience - I'm not really take cost into consideration as of now....

2. Any must do things? And I am including touristy stuff because although we live in NY we havent really done any...

3. Any must go to restaurants - for lunch or dinner?? I was thinking of doing Max Brenner for lunch one day - maybe serendipity's but i dont want to deal with waiting...

4. Any other entertainment ideas?

Any ideas would be great!! I'm still in the planning stage - getting all the ideas down before I book anything - but I need to book soon - his b-day is at the end of the month.

1. Does it matter where your hotel is? If price is not a factor, I would check out Hotel on Rivington, the Bowery Hotel, W Union Square, the Hudson, etc.

2. When deciding what to do... does he like museums? You can check out what exhibits are going on. Does he like plays? If the weather is nice, DH and I like to go to the farmers market in Union Square or walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, get ice cream on the pier, walk along the promenade and take a water taxi back to midtown.

3. For lunch/brunch I would try Essex House or Friend of the Farmer. For dinner I love Del Frisco's for steak, Sushi Samba 7 for sushi, Otto for Italian/Pizza, Cafe Espanol for spanish, Cafe Mogador for Mediterranean, and I just went to Fig and Olive which was yummy!

I can suggest alot more if gave us an idea of how you wanted to spend the day. Have fun!!

Can I make a comedy club suggestion? I would recommend Comix NY - it's down on 14th St and 9th Avenue. It's got a nice, upscale lounge area in front and it's a little less touristy than Caroline's and Dangerfields. Also, if you go to Mesa Grill, you're not too far away Chat Icon

For hotels, I actually really like Hudson Hotel on 58th Street. The rooms are on the small side, but they're very well-decorated. They also have 2 nice bars on the main level. Not too far from there is Rosa Mexicano, a Mexican restaurant that has the best pomegranate margaritas Chat Icon
