OMG, I looked at the last one and was like "I can identify that bird!" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Great pics, Lisa, but they all just look like "birds" to me. Chat Icon Sometimes when Steve's driving I'll say to the boys... "oh, look at the ducks guys" and Steve says, "those are geese, hon". Yeah... I know my birds. Chat Icon

Did you try WhatBird.com?

I use it all the time, plus I have an Audobon birding field guide

But, those grey ones without any distinctive markings are always hard to id...and so are some of the babies

Re: Weekend Wildlife/Bird ID help/pic overload

The small grayish brown birds might be finches. The females look a lot like female house sparrows, about the same size, but are almost devoid of the markings of house sparrows. I always see the finch females with a male that has a red, orange or purple head. The females do have streaking on their breast though.

With juveniles birds, all bets are off because they typically take a while to grow into the adult markings. So you might have a juvenile sparrow or finch there.

I think you're ready for a Sibley's Bird ID guide. I was just thumbing through mine last night because my Dad told me he saw a bird with a brilliant yellow breast that was as big as a Cardinal in his yard. I think his sizing might be off - that's one of the hardest things to estimate in my opinion - and he might have seen a Goldfinch or Warbler or something.

Anyway, I digress. My guess is female house finch:

Yeah, we get a ton of house finches...they love the thistle sacks!! Maybe it was a fledgling...the smaller ones are so hard to id

What is Sibley's? I have the Audobon one...

Cam anyone ID the bird onthe lantern feeder? A juvenile starling maybe?
