Who's asking?

Weight & IVF

For those ladies that have been through, are going through or will go through IVF, was anyone refused treatment initially because of their weight? That is say if one is overweight, you are refused treatment.

I am asking cos I just read an article about this where a woman was refused treatment by several clinics due to being overweight. This was in England and I was just curious to see if that was an across the board thing.

TIA!

Re: Weight & IVF

It is true that the national Health system in the UK is imposing this, but I haven't seen it in the US

My friend's sister had IVF privately in the UK and there are no weight impositions in the private sector

Re: Weight & IVF

I am over weight and wasnt denied, but was told since I was part of the NYS DOH Grant program, I "could" be denied for weight.

Re: Weight & IVF

My Doctor said my chances will be better if I lost weight. I told him I would be back when I lost 20-30 pounds. He said not to wait too long because age is also a factor but to give the weight loss a try for a month or two.

A friend of mine never used any protection, etc and just never got pregnant - she just thought she couldn't get pregnant and left it at that. To get more healthy (nothing baby related) she decided to stop smoking and lost like 50-60 pounds. Well, she got pregnant - it was of course something she didn't want because she felt she was to old. Long story short.....her daughter is now 3 years old and the love of her and her husbands life!!! I guess things happen for a reason.

I guess dropping pounds does help!
