Re: weight issue
Atkins is the worst diet to do if you are ttc. If you want a diet for fertility, eat a lot of organic vegetables and fruits, limit animal protein, limit dairy, wheat products, sugar and limit alcohol and caffeine. You want to increase the akaleine foods and stay away from acidic foods.
If your cervical mucus is acidic it won't be sperm friendly.

Re: weight issue
I don't think you're heavy enough to have to worry about it. Just eat healthy and excercise a bit more and you'll be fine. I would say that your probably still in the normal range for your height.

Re: weight issue
I dont think you have enouch extra weight for them to be concerned. Usually its an extra 60 plus that they say to drop a few to increase your fertility.

Re: weight issue
it depends on how overweight you are. I'm like you, 5' 5 1/2 and for the wedding in Mach of '04 I went down to around 138 (from stress and starving myself). When I went for one of my first appt's they weighed me in at 150, so that's about 15 lbs!!!
Dr said that I was fine both health wise and weight wise.

Re: weight issue
I was very overweight when I started TTC and it didn't affect my ability to get pregnant at all. Up until the end I had a great pregnancy. At the end my BP started to get high but they didn't really attribute it to my weight. More likely stress because once I was taken out of work and was able to relax it went back to normal. Next time around I want to be closer to my ideal body weight though because physically it was hard on me at the end.

I thought my doctor would frak if he heard I was pregnant at 150 bc I felt as though he would assume alot of girls gain 30 pounds which would make me 180...yikes for 5'4. Just out of curiosity, are you allowed to lose weight while u r pregnant? Would they think u were starving your child if lets say I am 150 and go down to 140 while pregnant? I also have a bridesmaid dress to fit inot for next july!

Re: weight issue
you are never allowed to diet while PG. You can go to a nutritionist and eat healthy, but you're not allowed to cut calories. Remember, you are eating for that baby too and even though the baby gets priority when taking everything for you, you'll suffer by being tired and getting sick.

Re: weight issue
One of the popular theories of inferitility that I read about when my friend was going through her issues was that those with low body fat actually have a harder time conceiving.
Think back to basic biology. In the deer population when there is less food, there are less fawn in the springtime. Mammals do not reproduce during times of famine - we're just not meant for that.
The main issue with being overweight & pregnant is gestational diabetes and high b/p. In utereo, insulin is a growth hormone - which leads to bigger babies. Bigger babies often mean more c-sections.

Low body fat, means little estrogen,
High body fat, means too much estrogen.
Estrogen is stored in fat tissue.
Basically, if you eat "healthy", get a lot of the nutrients that you need from organic fruits and vegetables, you will help your body be ready to ttc and be healthy throughout pregnancy.
