Weight loss plan

I need to lose about 100lbs. Over the last 2 years I was on medication for anxiety and gained about 70-80lbs. I am not on the medication, but looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for a healthy, weight loss option?

I currently walk/go to the gym when I can, but I need help learning how to portion food, learn healthy options to eat when I am hungry as well. I have tried Weight Watchers, but I am not sure if it's the best plan for me?

Any suggestions? Thank you!

I had trouble with weight watchers and went to my fitness Pal. It tracks calories.

I have tried SO many diets, what I have found works best for me is eating "paleo". I am over counting, weighing etc.. google the whole 30, I completed one and it was life changing for me! There are a tons of great bloggers to follow as well that motivate me. I did 2 rounds of a whole 30 back to back and lost a ton of weight. I then got into exercising, continued eating paleo with one cheat meal a week and continue to see results

As a fitness professional, I would advise a client like you to find a group setting of people working towards the same goal - one that encompasses working out and weight loss coaching.

Exercise is great for combatting anxiety too.

If you give me a general location I can try to recommend something.

Re: Weight loss plan

My biggest suggestion and really the only thing that works is being accountable to someone. I have a lot of weight to lose - I have lost about 60. When I lost my most, I was texting a friend on a daily basis my food, workouts etc. That was the best way. Plus we both were in relatively the same spot with the same amount to lose.

I did Weight Watchers years back and had success. I tried it after I had both of my kids and didn't have success.

My friend convinced me to try it one more time and I find the new plan is working for me. So, even if you have tried it in the past, the changes that have been made may work better for you this time.

Re: Weight loss plan

I went through a dramatic weight loss several years ago, dropped about 55lbs. These are the methods that worked for me:

I used to switch up my diet:
-South beach
-atkins
-Did not eat meat for a month
-Did not drink alcohol

Tracked my calories on My Fitness Pal.

My workout plan through the 5-6 months was was follows:
-4-5 days a week on elliptical for 30 minutes. I did this for about two weeks then bumped it 45minutes

-Started taking cardio dance classes and boot camp classes about two months into my weight loss journey to change it up.

I would do a 30 min on the elliptical and a dance class. I worked out about 5-6 days a week. Some days would be just 30 minutes on elliptical and 15 min job on the treadmill.

South beach helped me with healthy recipes, like cauliflower mash and burgers in between lettuce or mushrooms.

The following meal prep has helped my DH and I:

I will do a crockpot ground turkey chili or Chicken chili. In addition to a one pan meal prep: Chicken and Veggie emal prep . You can switch up the veggies. We alternate between the meals and the crockpot food for the week.

Also salads are easy meals to make. Switch it up with Caesar salad, or marinate chicken with different yogurt dressings. Add fruit in a salad, but I wouldn't eat to much fruit in the beginning of the weight loss journey because they are high in sugar.

I also like the green smoothie cleanse, if you read the eBook its very enlightening. I feel so much better since I been having green smoothies. My skin is better, I feel less bloated and my DH says his sleep is so much better since doing it.

What does your doctor say? I would advise you to start with a good doctor and be under his/her supervision during your WL journey

Good luck!!

Thank you! I was on anxiety medication for 2 years which caused me to gain a lot of weight, unfortunately. He was monitoring the medication and also manages my thyroid levels every 6 months. He is aware of the weight gain issue. I may ask him for a referral to a nutritionist as well..

Thanks again for your suggestion! Chat Icon

You should try out Beachbody. I used their P90X program to get fit a few years ago and just recently got a subscription to their on demand service after putting the weight back on. I know a few other ladies on the board have talked about their success with them too!

They've got 30 day free trials for the majority of their more popular programs so if you think being able to work out at home might help it would be worth checking out: https://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/online-workouts-videos.do

weight watchers worked for me. After having my 3rd DD i was able to lose 60lbs on WW! It took me about a year and a half but i found the plan easy to follow, even while going out to dinners, family events and cooking for a husband a 3 kids.

WW has worked for me as well. I have previously lost 125lbs, gained some back after a few years and a Lupus diagnosis. Joined again, and I am 60lbs down again.

It really does work if you follow the plan.. Meetings are an integral part for me. And while some women go to meetings as a social thing, I use it purely for accountability and motivation. I don't go with friends and I don't go to make friends. I like to go alone to take it all in.
