Weight watchers newbie
Dh and I just started WW online on Monday. So far so good, I hope. Any tips or tricks anyone can suggest? I assume the majority of the points should be "spent" on dinner. Breakfast has been pretty easy for me. I hope I am tracking right, as it is hard when I make things at home from my head or get lunch out. For example, today I got greek. Chicken, rice and a salad. So I added the points separately (like selected chicken kabob, 1/4 cup rice, and salad) from the points manager, is this right? Tonight I am making pan sauteed tiliapia (I just put some cajan seasoning on it), so I just put it as 4 oz tiliapia. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Weight watchers newbie
I am brand new myself, so I am not much help as yesterday was my first day
I bought the WW food scale though and that was helpful to me bc my problem is PORTION CONTROL...you can put chicken on the scale for example, type chicken and it tell you the points...so if it is too big you know to have a little less...I think this will be helpful to me...I will add as I discover any other good tips.
GOod luck

Re: Weight watchers newbie
I keep a lot of low point snacks with me. Apples, WW string cheese, 90 calorie fiber one bars are all 1 point snacks. The first week or two your body is adjusting and I would not say saving your points for dinner because you will be starving during the day.

Re: Weight watchers newbie
my advice is to stay away from pre-packaged snacks.....dont waste your points on those WW snacks or 100 calorie packs....have fruit/veggies instead. You end up within the points with the prepackaged things but many times over-loaded in carbs and sugars

Re: Weight watchers newbie
I am a guy and I could write volumes on what I have learned on WW.
A few things I have learned:
1) Try to stay healthy. For instance, the first time I did it I was obsessed with the lowest points possible. So I ate Fat Free Chips and stuff like that which is all horrible for you. So don't fall into that trap.
2) Plain baked potato is only ONE point because of the fiber. Eat baked potatoes a lot instead of rice or pasta.
3) I'm usually hungrier during the day so I have learned that I don't need to save a bunch of points for dinner. Usually a WW dinner for me falls around 6 points. I found that after that I wasn't hungry anymore. In the meantime, I was STARVING that afternoon.
4) Olive Oil is great for you but on WW IT IS THE ENEMY!!!!! I think 1 tbsp of olive oil is 4 points. So you think you're eating healthy with a salad but if you have 3 tbsps of olive oil, that's a 12 point salad!
5) Arnold Double Fiber bread is a MILLION times better than Light Bread and only 1 point for 2 slices. Also, the Arnold whole wheat sandwich thins are 1 point.
6) Ham, Turkey and Roast Beef are your only cold cuts. 1 point for 2 ounces.
7) I'm Italian so this one hurts but you can get used to it. Instead of Pasta (And yes, that includes whole wheat pasta), it's much better points-wise to get Ronzoni Whole Wheat Egg Noodles and eat that as pasta. It's actually pretty good. Make your own sauce from the can and the sauce is 0 points. Noodles are 1 point per dry ounce.
8) Fiber One Muffins are great! Substitute egg whites for regular eggs and they are two points each.
9) Kashi Go Lean Crunch--either as a cereal or a dry snack. That will fill you up for HOURS!
10) Air Popped popcorn...1/2 cup unpopped colonels is 2 points when popped and that is A LOT of popcorn!
11) If you have a sweet tooth...chew gum! My personal favorite is Juicyfruit. No Points!
12) If you have to go out for lunch or dinner...get a BLT with no mayo. I always counted that as 5 points and it always worked.
13) Ok, not that good for you but if you are really craving hot dogs---Boarshead lite hot dogs with a Light King Kullen Hot Dog Roll is 3 points total.
Ok, I can go on and on so stop me if this is too much or let me know if you'd like more advice. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thank you so much, this is VERY helpful. I find that I am a large dinner eater (around 10 points for dinner for the last 3 nights). My breakfast is steady around 3-4 points (chobani fat free yogurt and a banana or apple). I am having some troubles with lunch, but I think I will figure it it. The coldcuts rec definitely helps.
Anymore advice you have would be great. I was trying to think of sides (ie carbs) for dinner. We did brown rice last night which was good, and we;ll do barilla plus pasta other nights but I don't know how to cover the potato (baked it good, but I prefer them in the oven and that takes a long time).

Just a thought but maybe you could make a few baked potatoes one night in the oven and then heat it for lunch or dinner quick in the micro the next day or two....this way if you dont have the hour to wait for the potato that night you can bake it and have it the next night?

Re: Weight watchers newbie
Glad my "discoveries" halped. Here's some more:
1) Eggo Low-Fat Whole Grain Waffles (1 point each) with Sugar-Free, Fat-Free syrup (no points for 1/4 cup) Maple Grove Farms is the best.
2) Mix Ground Turkey with 1/2 packet of onion soup mix. Makes 4 delicious burgers. 1 point per ounce after they're cooked. Then for the fries: Slice a potato as thin as you want them. Throw in a bowl. Add a splash of water, paprika, garlic powder and pepper. Mix around and put on a cookie sheet covered with foil and sprayed with Pam. Bake on 425 for about 40 minutes. Keep an eye on it though. 1 point for A LOT of fries!
3) 4 Starbursts are 1 point, 11 M&Ms are 1 point, 1 Oreo is 1 point, 1 package of Fun-Dip is 1 point. A Hershey bar is only 5 points so if you need a chocolate fix that is a good, few ingredient choice.
4) Ohh!!! Stonyfield Organic Chocolate Underground Yogurt is 3 points and an AWESOME, healthy chocolate dessert!
5) Firecracker ice pops (you know those red, white and blue ones) Depending on the size, they're either 1 point or no points. Good for sweet tooth.
6) Craving Pizza? Toast sandwich thins on one side, flip over and top with your homemade, no point sauce and then a little weight watchers shredded mozzarella. Put back in the oven for like 2 minutes. 1 Point each!
7) If you have to grab fast food---Subway 6" veggie delight on whole wheat (no cheese, no oil) is only 4 points 6" ham, turkey or Roast Beef is 5 points.
8) Now for the BAD one...LOL--Taco Bell--taco= 5 points...soft taco=4 points.
9) Baked chips--2 points an ounce
10) Most lolipops are 1 point
I'll try to think of more stuff I've discovered.

Re: Weight watchers newbie
Kim's bagels 1 point except the cinnamon ones are higher in points- not sure maybe 2 points. Hard to find they have them usually by the ww breads. Fiber one complete pancakes mix- 3 pancakes - 3 points w/ sugar free syrup is yummy. Magic Pop 15 cal a piece- I make a dip w/ ww cream cheese and salsa. Delicious. Take 1, 12 oz can diet coke or pepsi, 1 c of ketchup and cook add Trader Joes turkey meatballs- low in points. Makes sweet and sour sauce- sounds nasty- but ti is not- I made it for the holidays everyone loved it....Take mango or peach salsa cook w/ a little chicken broth , add shrimp, General Tso's shrimp. I sometimes add poached chicken tenders to it too. Take cottage cheese add light cool whip mix it up, add berries and some splenda it tatses like a cheeecake. Take chicken parts add fresh lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and lemon herb seasoning and bake. Mrs. T's pierioges are 1 point boiled- love them! The Ballpark all white meat franks are 1 point. Center cut bacon 3 slices I think = 2 points. Quinoa is excellent just flavor it up alot w/ chicken broth and seasoning.
I joined in february and so far I am down 16 pounds- I go to the meetings and this is some of the recipes I have picked up from there.
Hope I helped. Keep the ideas coming!

Re: Weight watchers newbie
I put things into the tracker just like you did. Its been working for me that way. I did buy a food scale but not the WW one. just a plain old one and I weigh my protien before I eat it. Enter the cook weight in the tracker.
If I make turkey meatballs or burgers, I weigh them as I make them, 2 oz meatballs each, then I know if I eat x meatballs its y points.
For lunch:
Arnold Sandwich Thins Bread (1 pt) Laughing Cow Cheese (1 pt) Heathy ones Cold Cuts (1pt) Lettuce, tomato, onion whatever else you like
3 pt lunch and its GOOD!!
Also I grill a bunch of thin sliced chicken breast and keep them cold in the fridge. I also keep a ton of veggies all cut up and ready to go. Make a salad with the chicken and put some FF or low fat dressing.
Lean Cuisines have the WW points on the box somewhere. Sometimes its hard to find buts its there. They range from 4 points up to 8. I try to have a lower point one with an apple or piece of fruit.

This is what I had for lunch today from the salad bar in the cafeteria at work. I put 1 cup romaine lettuce, 1 cup mescaline greens, 1/2 cup each broccoli, peppers, and cucumbers. I added about a tablespoon of shredded cheddar (probably not fat free) and added ~3 oz grilled chicken.

I have to correct myself. The Arnold Double Fiber bread is one point per slice. I don't know why I thought it was 1 point for 2 slices. My apologies.
