weird thing happened w/ creditors calling my house.....
I've received calls from 2 different companies (both credit cards) on my home phone in the past week for my sisters brother in law (her husband's brother).....it sounds like it could be for debt collection, and I'm perplexed how they would have my #?
Do you think he would have had to GIVE them my # as his contact info? Or is it possible b/c my sisters last name (same as BIL's) is still affiliated w/ my house and therefore they're just pulling at straws and contacting people w/ his last name? I'm just a little freaked out if he intentionally gave my home phone # out. has this kind of thing ever happened to you?

Yes it happens to me all the time and it's probably because you have the same last name.

It might just be the last name.
We use the same insurance company as my BIL for homeowners. They constantly send his paperwork to our house, no matter how many times he tries to fix it. And when we switched over to that company for auto they set up the policy for BIL and me instead of DH & me. Then when they went to fix it they canceled BIL's auto policy!

Yes it happens to me all the time and it's probably because you have the same last name.
I have a completely different last name- my maiden name starts with a Z (very uncommon), my married name w/ a J (very common).....and my sister's married name starts with a C which is the same as her BIL (italian name not that common). the only records w/ my sisters married name for my address are for CUNY b/c she went to Queens College and used my address. I guess I just thought that was a stretch to trace it to my house. but I'd be happier to know the credit card company is finding me on their own rather than her BIL giving out my info! lol

No. The same thing has happened to me. They call my inlaws looking for my brother. We still never figured out how to they made that connection.

Happened with my brother. I would get calls about his car loan. I told them I'm not responsible for him and they should try contacting him directly. I also let them know that if they called me again I would file charges of harassment.
