OMG I am SO glad that someone else in the world does this Born and raised on LI here, and its only because of a movie I saw once, and for the life of me cannot remember what it was...
I also will not look into a mirror in the dark.... too many creepy movies as a kid I guess

Re: Weirdo question of the day
Okay, you are so not alone! I don't recall doing it in a house, but since we live in an apartment building, I do check. I had a student tell me how his snake got loose once and that's all it took!

Re: Weirdo question of the day
Okay you silly northern-ers. I warned you, you SHOULD be on the look out for snakes-in the toilet AND in your garage:
snakes in a garage in Milburn NJ!
Police are trained to deal with cold-blooded killers, but officers in Millburn today said they encountered one that was more slippery than most.
Officer Michael Tichenor captured a 4-foot ball python that surprised a Greenwood Drive father and son as they rummaged through their garage.
Leon Schrage said he and his 11-year-old son, Sam, discovered the nonvenomous constrictor as they were moving a Boogie Board and saw the snake curled up behind some toys.
"My son went to move his board and I said, ‘Sam do you have a fake snake?’ " Schrage said. "When the snake contracted, we knew it was real."
Schrage and his wife, Patricia, called animal control, Millburn police and Turtle Back Zoo. The police responded immediately. Although he had no official training, Tichenor secured the reptile, placed it in a cloth sack and took it to the zoo for evaluation. No one was harmed.
"He’s a very level-headed officer," Lt. Peter Eakley said. "He did everything he was supposed to do."
The Schrages — who aside from Sam have two other children ages 9 and 4 — said they were more fascinated than frightened by the encounter.
"It’s not something you’d expect to see in Millburn, New Jersey," Schrage said.
But mystery still surrounds the appearance of the exotic snake in the "upscale" suburban neighborhood.
"We were canvassing the entire area and nobody seems to know anything about the snake," Eakley said. "This is somebody’s exotic pet, and we want to get it back with the owners."
Brint Spencer, general curator at the West Orange zoo, said he gets numerous calls from people trying to unload pet reptiles — usually boas, Burmese pythons and green iguanas — usually because a kid went to college, someone got married or a couple is having children and can no longer care for the animal.
"A lot of people will get an animal like this as a spontaneous purchase," Spencer said. "People don’t plan long term."
The snake is currently in Eakley’s office, where officers have tried to make it comfortable, according to instructions from the zoo.
"We went to Petco and bought the bright lights and the aquarium," he said, adding that Tichenor has volunteered to take care of the reptile if its owners don’t come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call Millburn police at (973) 564-7001.
Police offered the Schrage family the option to hold onto the python, to which Schrage replied: "Absolutely not," but added, "I wish it the best of luck."
Staff writer Nyier Abdou contributed to this report.
