Welcome to the World Joseph Anthony
Hi all! Just wanted to post my experience from Friday as to maybe help others.
On Friday at 5am we arrived at the hospital for our scheduled c-section. We got to L and D and was immediately brought into a room to change into a gown. Once changed a nurse came in, drew some blood, hooked up my IV and shaved me (she cut me in two places ) At this point we were to just sit and wait so my mom, dad and sister were allowed in the room and we all hung out until about 6:30am. At 6:30 am the anethesialogist came in and explained that due to my current medical condition that a spinal was probably not the best idea and that it would be in my best interest to be put under general anesethia. I wasn't prepared for that, even though it was a discussion we had, I STILL wasn't prepared for it. It was at this point that I was informed that DH would not be allowed in the operating room with me. I started getting REALLY nervous and started shaking uncontrollably DH tried to calm me down but I was beyond help at this point. The doctors came in and told me it was time and started wheeling me down to the OR. When I got into the OR I was FLOORED my ob's office pretty much had EVERYONE there and on standby so when I came into the room thru those double doors I was greated by a team of about 20 people! Including one amazing women who just sat there and talked to me while holding my hand.
The nurse put the betadine on my stomach and it BUUURRNNNNEEEDDD where the nurse had cut me and the team all stopped in thier tracks so that they could fan my privates The staff then proceeded to put up the curtain over my chest as I continued to shake in nervous anticipation.
As soon as the curtain went up my anesthesiologist popped over my head and said time to breath in now and not even 10 second later I was out like a light!
Next thing I knew I was being woken up in the recovery room. My throat was VERY sore from being intabated (thats when they put the tube down your throat for you to breathe) but I used everything I had to immediatly ask for Joseph's apgar score (7 and then 9). I was then told to rest for a while (which was AOK by me!) About 15 minutes later they let Darren in to me and he let me know that he saw our son and that Joseph was doing AOK and that I would be wheeled in to see him in just a few more minutes. At this very moment time stayed still for me and I turned to Darren and said "the commercial is right" and he looked at me perplexed as I went on to say "Having a baby DOES change everything" and then I thanked my husband for giving me my son. With that my bed was wheeled into the NICU and we took our first family picture
On Friday I felt pretty good, made a few calls to friends and even had some visitors! OOh I should add we used Call em all to let our friends and family know and it was the BEST thing we did! If anyone has a huge family or a huge list, you might want to look into this. WELLLLL worth the 14 bucks!
Saturday morning I woke up and HELLLO PAIN! HOLY CRAP! Not to scare anyone but Saturday was really very rough for me. The nurse came in and told me I had to get up and that I had to pee so I started trying to do just that. I realized that I wasn't going to make it to the bathroom to my tech brought in a bed pan...I was going thru stage fright with her there so I sent her out of the room As soon as it was just me I started flowing...then next thing I know my OB is in the room with me (just checking) the neo natologist comes in to give me an update and the anthesiologist came in to check in...no one seemed to care that I was laying in my bed, spread eagle, bald with a half full bed pan I laughed at how fast I lost my modesty because to be honest, I could have cared less!
Anyway, I continued to try and get up and it was realllly painful but I finally made it up and made it to the bathroom. The nurse offered me pain meds but said I needed to eat first so I made them deliver the food to me in the bathroom because I didn't want to stand again without the meds.
The good thing about getting out of bed was that DH was able to wheel me down to the NICU and I was able to see my baby for only the second time
alllll the pain was worth it and just melted away while I held him. All in all I was glad to have gotten out of bed, it was hard to see it at the time but it did help me feel better.
The next day I woke up and felt pretty good. I got out of bed and DH took me down to the NICU so we could feed and change the little one. Monday I felt even better! and I was dishcharged that night!
WAHOOO
I am now home and getting ready to start the second phase of this journey!
