Welcome to the world party
So my husband and I are not religious. We weren't really planning on doing a baptism. Plus, we are both from different religious backgrounds. Well.............we started to get raked over the coals this weekend from his parents/family. They said they will back our "welcome to the world party", but at the very least, we should baptise the child so they can get into Catholic school down the road for "safety" reasons!! Here we go.............my parents are going to be next on the list, I am sure!

Everyone is going to have their opinion about religion. Your child~your decision.

Not really since I am not Catholic . DH is and both his sisters went to Kellenberg so the family feels that we should have that as an option for our child too, in case the public school is horrible or unsafe.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be Catholic to attend Catholic school. If I remember correctly some of the kids I went to school with were not Catholic. I think that's a ridiculous reason to baptize your child. IMO
So sorry for the annoyance!

Re: Welcome to the world party
lame excuse.. I'm also fairly sure you don't have to be catholic to go to catholic school.
It's solely yours and your DH's decision... to heck with them... although you WILL suffer their wrath
That said, this 'Catholic on paper' (shhh, I'm really an athiest who just appreciates some christian morals / values) has been worn down over the years.
Both DH (just as religious as me) and I have found it to be rather convenient to keep things up to snuff on paper just to shut the families up. His family especially would basically not consider our marriage legit if we didn't marry in a RC church (I know this for a fact since his sister got married on a boat...)
As obnoxious as that is, there is no way to argue it. it's their opinion and it will never change. So, Catholic on paper works for us. We make a few concessions (baptisms, other major sacraments) but frankly, it's worth more than all of the aspirin in the world.
I will say, though, that we are fairly forced to do this, and I feel guilty becuase I DO respect the sanctity of others' faith, and I feel like I shouldn't be bothering the church... It should remain for the 100% true believers... On the flip side, probably 1/2 my congregation shows up to church less frequently than we do and have no twinges of guilt at all... but I digress....
