They're striking out at the plate these days, but the Yankees may soon score big off the field because the plastic seats in their historic stadium could fetch an eye-popping $1,923 a pair, The Post has learned.

Sources said that's the figure the city and the ballclub are discussing in preparation for the sports memorabilia "sale of the century," when every conceivable artifact from the current stadium goes on the selling block after the last game this season.

Memorabilia experts said they expect a sellout despite the lofty price, which is more than double the $869 that the Mets are asking for a pair of seats removed from Shea Stadium after it closes.

Both teams will be playing in new facilities next season. Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, and Shea opened 41 years later.

A Mets spokesman said more than half the 16,000 pairs of seats made available Monday have been snapped up.

"In this economy, that's pretty good," said Richie Aurigemma, who runs YankeeStadiumSeats.com.
