We're bringing home a new boy from Alabama tomorrow!
We are rescuing a blonde German Shepherd tomorrow. He is starting his long ride this morning at 11 and should arrive in NJ tomorrow morning by 7:30. We are so excited.
I'm praying that he fits in well with my kids and my old lab. Hopefully the ride up here won't be too traumatic for him. But we're ready and super-psyched!
Let me know if you have any suggestions to make him as comfortable as possible. This is our third rescue but the first from down South.

Oh My goodness he is beautiful! I havent seen a blonde shephard since my ex's 20 years ago. They are gorgeous dogs!

He has about 20-30 pounds to gain but he's supposed to be one terrific guy. He was found tied to a tree with no food or water..probably only had a few hours left in him. in that Alabama heat.
But he's all ours to fatten him up and give him lots of love!

My only suggestion would be to keep a calm environment- introduce everything to him slowly since you don't know what his background is

What a beauty!
Considering his abandonment, long transport and possibility he wasn't very well socialized, I would consider doing a 2 week shutdown:

Cody has been an absolute dream! He's getting along with my lab and he's so sweet to my kids and anyone we've introduced him to.
Unfortunately he has terrible hotspots on his face. I brought him to the vet and we're treating him but it's obvious they're so painful.
He's been a trooper! We know he's still getting used to us and our home but I am thrilled at how well he's settled in.
