We're going to try IUI next month!!
Hi,
Ok, we went for our second opinion appt. last night & very glad we did. We really like our doctor, which many people say is very important.
He was upset that I was never sent for an FSH blood test. So next month, when I get AF, I have to call his office and they'll have the test done. At that time, he also wants me to start taking Clomid. And he wants to begin IUI procedure if all goes well.
Any input on how exactly the Clomid & IUI works would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!!

Re: We're going to try IUI next month!!
Hi....I was on Clomid 100mg/IUI in 2005 and conceived my DS after 3rd one....We now just had our 6 th IUI while trying for #2 and unfortunately am now at the start of our 1st IVF cycle...The only negative side effects I experienced with the Clomid were some hot flashes and trails (vision) but the IUI is a piece of cake- Monitoring is fairly light- I was in generally around 6x per cycle w/ my RE..IUI to me was no more uncomfortable than a pap and the worst part of it all is the 2WW !!!!..Good luck to you- I'm glad you found a doc your comfortable with (its so important !!!)

Sounds like your doctor is bein pro-active - which is great!
Taking clomid increases the number of follicles that develop - which should make you release more eggs (possibly from both sides) - which gives you a better chance of getting pregnant.
I hate to dampen your spirit about IUI's - but they don't increase your chances by much. But they do help with specific fertility issues.
It's great to have a plan!
Good luck...

Re: We're going to try IUI next month!!
I did 2 rounds of Clomid with IUI. You take Clomid for 5 days during the beginning of your cycle (days 3-7 or 5-9). My RE then triggered me with a shot of Ovidrel when the follicles reached a good size. 24-48 hours after the shot, you will go in for an insemination. The women that I have heard this work for have ovulation or male factor IF. Unfortunately I am unexplained IF and the Clomid/IUI combo did not work for me. Side effects from Clomid vary from woman to woman. I did not tolerate the drug well and had to stop after 2 months on it.

Good luck to you. IUIS are fairly easy. Clomid helps stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs, and many RE's say better quality eggs as well.
