We're in the process of adopting...Update: All Ours!!!
Hi Ladies (and gents) -
Just wanted to share some excited news! DH and I are in the process of adopting a sweet angel from the Friends of Rocky Mount Animals (F.O.R.Animals) group!
So far so good, we went through the background check, reference check, vet check, and home visit, and expect to have the sweet furbaby with us by Christmas...as soon as this weekend or the next even!
I would like to get some helpful tips and advice from those that have adopted recently, in terms of how you've prepared your home, etc.
Hubby grew up with dogs his entire life, but it's a pretty new experience for me. We're excited!!!
Here's some information:
- 2 - 5 Year Old Female
- Spayed / up to date
- Havanese
- House trained
- great w/her foster family (with children & other dogs)
Here are the questions I've prepared for the foster family:
- is she crate trained?
- what are her favorite treats & toys?
- is she chewing?
- favorite food, how often, how much?
- if she's received her heart-worm medication?
On our list of "to buy" we have:
- bed
- food bowl
- water bowl
- harness
- collar / leash
- toys
- treats
- food

Looks like you've got it just about covered! The only thing I would ask about is grooming- how often/ what do they do. If they say she is a chewer, I highly recommend a Kong!

You might also want to ask where she sleeps at night... in her crate? on her bed? in bed with her people?
Kudos to you for adopting! Can't wait to hear stories and see more pictures!

Congrats on adopting
I have 3 Havanese and I cannot believe how much your potential pup looks like my Bella, also an adopted pup. Wow! Any Havanese questions, please feel free to FM. Havs are the best!
Knowing Havs, they do tend to have separation anxiety. I would just ask if this cutie has shown any signs of it and how they deal with it.

Thanks so much ladies! We are officially approved, and hope to meet her this weekend.
The organization got in touch with the foster family with my questions, and answered everything!
Here's what I asked and their responses:
- Is she crate trained? pretty much so - likes her crate
- What type of food is she eating? pedigree and mix some wet food in with it
- How often and how much are you feeding her? 1 bowl in morning and 1 bowl in the evening
- Is she chewing on anything? toys
- What treats does she enjoy? not so much - doesn't seem to like biscuit
- Does she have her heartworm medicine? yes
- Does she have any allergies? not that we know of
- What toys is she playing with? not big on bones but seems to like toys
