Will the Westboro Church picket the funerals and memorials of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shootings in Newtown, CT?

Shirley Phelps-Roper and other WBC hate mongers tweeted on Dec. 15, 2012 that "Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgement..."

Using hashtags including #FagMarriageDoomsCT, #GodSentTheShooter, #BloodOfThoseBabes, and #TeachYourChildrenToFearGod, the Westboro Baptist Church supporters are spreading hate messages and threatening to disrupt the memorials for the 20 children and 6 adults who died at the hands of gunman Adam Lanza on Friday.

Shortly after the news broke about the Connecticut school shootings on Friday, WBC's Margie Phelps-Roper tweeted that "fag marriage" is to blame for the mass shooting and that alleged gunman Adam Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza, "broke his moral compass."

Phelps went on to mock President Obama's speech about the mass shootings at the Sandy Hook school, tweeting, "Yes. Stop marrying fags & mourn for your sins" in response to Obama stating that the "nation must take meaningful action after school shooting."

The Westboro Baptist Church is an American, Independent Baptist church headed by Fred Phelps.

Members of the WBC are known for its protests against homosexuality, the picketing of funerals of American servicemen and desecrating the American flag.

They carry signs that say "God is your enemy," "God hates Fags," "God hates America," and "Pray for more dead soldiers."

Why is WBC allowed to be called a "church" if they think God is our enemy?

This so-called "church" uses the website address: godhatesfags.com. The group typically shows up to picket funerals and memorials in green vans, although they have been known to show up in vans in other colors, including red or blue.

I'm all for religious freedom but there is truly something wrong with these people. How can anyone believe in a religion that would think this was okay? Simply stomach churning.

they are just a disgusting group of people. they use god as a front. They are attention whores who will do anything for shock value to put them in the spotlight.

This group is beyond disgusting.

I think that in the past when this group has done this people have lined the streets around the churches, funeral homes, and cemeteries to shield the mourners. I wonder where we can get information about those efforts.

My son saw them when they picketed the Union Theological Seminary in NYC a few years ago and he said they were crazy.

I am sure if they show up, the community plus half the state of Connecticutt will surround the families to insulate them.

They usually only do counter-"protests" at funerals of miltary personnel, but I believe they have make exceptions in the past.

I can only hope that the police arrest them or someone beats them to a bloody pulp.

If you do a google search, the only ones reporting it are the examiner and inquisitir. I don't exactly trust their reporting.

There is a strong movement on Twitter and Facebook to shield the families from this so called "church". I will be there right away with other moms should something materialize since I'm 20 mins away. The word is they are already in the area. The Newtown Police and Selectwomen have been notified. Some will be searching local hotels for Kansas license plates.

Rumor is they want to protest the funerals as well as Obama's vigil with the families. They must not realize that the meeting with the families is a private. I doubt they will even get close. They also said they would be protesting the Aurora murders but never showed. I believe the church only consist of roughly 40 members. Only 4-10 usually come. They fund their "protest" trips by lawsuits. Several of them in the group are lawyers. I think most people are hip to their game and know not to touch or talk to them. How they are not a hate group is beyond me!!

The Patriot Guard has been notified. The last I heard they can only provide services if requested by the grieving families.

They are disgraceful human beings. Actual human being is too good of a word. If people ignore them, and quit promoting this garbage on sites like this, social media, etc., they would just go away. All this takes away from the beautiful souls lost.

There is a We the People website created by the White House that allows petitions. Somebody started one to name the Westboro Church a Hate Group. I signed already.

Go to: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/

Click on "Open Petitions", scan down the page until you see it, then sign. You may see other petitions you might want to sign as there are many on gun control. Some make more sense than others, but I do believe the White House keeps an eye on what people are requesting.
