We've begun a big dinner habit...is that bad?

Riley has been impossibly fussy when it comes to eating (many of you know)...and I think it's gotten to the point where she EXPECTS ONLY chicken nuggets for dinner. If there is anything else in front of her, she freaks.

I know everyone says to keep trying...it would be easy if she wasn't asleep when DH gets home and we have dinner. At least then if she rejects what I eat, it's not 100% going to waste cuz we're eating it too. But just now, I made pastina and a sweet potato, hoping she'd eat both.

She seriously knows what she wants, and HAS to have it. Chat IconChat Icon

So...is this a really bad habit? Is there a way to keep it from getting worse?

Or do I just say, it's a phase and ride it out? Basically her diet is: oatmeal (refusing applesauce and bananas all of a sudden!), pancakes for breakfast, and chicken nuggets for dinner.

She WILL however, eat the organic baby food pouches (plum organics) with the veggie mix. Thinking I might stock up on them since she'll at least eat those.

It's actually kinda funny because DH and I are habitual with it comes to food...we both have the same thing for lunch every day. Chat Icon

Sorry for these constant posts. I'm at my wits end and I just don't want her to starve, yet I don't want her to win either.

TIA!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sadie is ridic. I dont know how she survivies most days. She refuses and freaks out if I put something in front of her she wont eat. It is terrible but i dont make a thing out of it. I doubt she will eat pancakes and pizza for every meal for the rest of her life. LOL.

Why go through the temper tantrums and flipping out? She'll probably outgrow it. Its hard to reason with a toddler sometimes and you gotta pick your battles.

I would try to get as many fruits and veggies in throughout the day as possible and then who cares if she has chicken nuggets everynight for dinner!

Thanks girls....having a really tough time getting even fruits in these days. The fact that she doesn't even take applesauce is baffling to me. So I guess it'll be those stupid Plum Organics pouches from now on!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So...I guess the consensus is, keep trying and just don't stress over it? I guess I'm just worrying about forming a habit here...uggh.

Me, not stress? Chat Icon

Thanks Chat Icon

Ah, I gave ds chick nuggets 5 out of 7 days last week. The 6 th day he chicken cutlets and the last he didn't eat anything but tostitos. I figure he will eat when he wants. And he has gotten much better. He actually had buttered macaroni tonight and fried meatballs the other day.

I'm not much help because I'm in a similar boat and have been for a long time!! DD is 2 1/2 and I was just thinking, after another frustrating dinner, about asking advice on LIF. DD is very picky! She almost always has been. It really hasn't worked too much for me, but from what I've been told it's best to not give in and just keep offering them what you are having for dinner. the hope is that eventually DC will try a little of what you're having and then you can build on that. We have had minimal success though! I think it's okay though too to give your child what they like, but not all the time. We've been trying to break the chicken nuggets/mac n cheese routine at least at dinner. Some nights, she has nothing for dinner!

AT least she is eating Meat.

Sadie would eat fruit all day if i let her. Every time I ask her what she wants it is "tantaMOPE" AKA Cantaloupe.

No chicken, beef or pork. ONCE and a while I will get her to eat cold cut turkey.

I dont remember the last time she ate a vegetable.

Chels would eat pasta and blueberries all day and everyday if I could, some days if she freaks I'll give it to her her, other days I see what I can get away with
