What a sweet child.
Just a little background: My boyfriend is a Disabled Iraqi War Veteran. Since his transition back to civilian world in August 2005 he has periods of tough times: PTSD, flashbacks, and feelings of low self worth all due to the war and his experiences there. It's a morale boost for him to know that people in our world don't hate him for his actions in the world. So the following is an email I got from him. It made me tear.  This is a wonderful little girl
So yeah, while I'm in ShopRite, looking for the tomato basil chicken, all of a sudden I hear a girls voice say "John?" It was an old friend, from high school. She had her daughter and sister with her. We had a little "Hi." session and a quick catch up, mostly of what happened to me out in Iraq, and that she's expecting another kid, at the close of the conversation she called her daughter over and said, "Look baby, he was in the army." And from there the little girl was all like screaming "He was in the army?!? WOW!!! I can't believe it!!! He's the army!!!!" She kept saying that as they were walking away...it really felt so good to know that a young parent is instilling that kind of admiration and respect for uniformed services. And again as I ran into them while in the dairy aisle looking for the egg beaters, the little girl noticed me again and started up "Look mommy, its the army man!!! Hi Army man!!!" Just then was when some of the FDNY guys were walking by, noticed my hat, told me "welcome back," shook my hand and patted me on the chest, and the little girl was all like "Oh WOW Firemen too!!! This is awesome!!! The army and the firemen all here together!!! Then as I was leaving she spotted me again she was all like "Bye Army Man!!!"

Thanks ladies. It meant a lot to him. And I'm sure your kind words do too.
But this story just reminds me how I need to speak up when I see a verteran of any war and thank them. Usually I'm too shy but if this little girl can, I can too.

We were on a tour of Arlington cemetary with DH's grandfather (WW2 army veteran) and the tour guide thanked all the military men on board. SO DH told his grandfather that, and he got so happy. Then we got off, and another couple came up and thanked him for his service also. It was so sweet. Even after all these years to be thanked for his service.
It's important to let them know we appreciate them... I'm too shy to do it as well.
