What age did you start Potty training?
DD is 15m old.. and inlaws think I should start and my family says way too young right now wait until 2.
To be honest I would like to wait.. Shes still on bottle and paci.. and finally becoming successful with getting rid of baby food all together.. I just feel like adding another milestone on to her right now will only make her regress back on things... Plus with baby #2 almost here.. I think it will be wayyyy too much to handle.
Am I doing the wrong thing by waiting?

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
I waited until my oldest DD was 27 months old. She trained in only 2 days!!!
My second DD is 14 1/2 months old now and I feel she is too young. I will wait til she is ready!

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
We started with DD at about 22 months. She just turned 2 and she is doing very well, but it's a long process for us. I wish the 2-day method would work for us - but we are far from that

What's the rush???
I would say wait unless you feel she is ready.
I think most of JAcob's friends and classmates didn't start training until almost 3...

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
My DS #1 was 2 1/2 and we struggled for months with it until he finally PT'd on his own around 3 yrs, 2 months.
DD completely trained herself at 2 yrs, 2 months, Bless her little heart.
DS #2 is 2 1/2 and still in diapers. he shows zero signs of being ready. I am so not in a rush...he will need to be PT'd for preschool next Sept but I don't care right now. I'm just not sweating it.
No offense against your families, but I am glad mine were never so involved in saying what and when we should do it. That can be really irritating. I think you should go with your gut.

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
DS is 15.5 mos and my mom is telling me the same thing. She thinks he is ready b/c he seems aware of when he is "going" and will even say potty some of the times. However, I think he is way too young for it to stick. I read that if they learn at this age it is more of a novelty thing and they will soon regress from it. But, I could be wrong and am very interested to hear if anyone has had success at this age! Good post!

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
I started putting Ava on the potty at 12 months, but we didn't start actually potty training until she was 26 months. She got it in about a week. About a month ago, she had a bad rash down there and had a small setback for about a week, but other than that, she's been completely potty trained since August. She's 2.5 now.

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
We introduced the potty around 20 months and he would sit there but wouldn't do anything. He will now (26 months) go pee on the potty fairly regularly, but I certainly wouldn't consider him trained. He will not ask to go on his own, but if you ask him if he wants to, he will. And I don't think he's anywhere ready to go #2 on the potty. My goal is to have him fully trained by or during the summer. I would be just fine with that and I thikn it's pretty realistic.

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
DS is 26 months old and likes to sit on the potty but wont do anything ON the potty -- that is until the minute we take him off and bam, he goes
So yeah we aren't anywhere close to being trained here

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
started at 16 mths. DS is now 18 months and goes pee pee on the potty. we put him on whenever he says potty and also when he wakes up in the morning. Now when he sits on it he always does pee pee.he only goes #2 once in awhile. so its still a work in progress

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
My dd likes to sit on the potty and look at books, but has only successfully went a handful of times. She is 21 months so I am totally not pushing it, Im just letting her get used to sitting on it. I think I may try to work on it a little bit more during either the Feb or April break from work. Maybe thats just wishful thinking though, well see!

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
Most experts agree that the vast majority of DC aren't physically capable of "holding it in" so that they can actually get to the bathroom in time until after 18 months.
We tried with DS at around 2.5, but he didn't want to until closer to 3.5.
DD is 2.5 now, and starting to show signs that she is getting ready.

Re: What age did you start Potty training?
i started potty training at 2 with DD but then i had DS a month into the training, and potty training went out the window! i waited until DD was 2 1/2 and the new baby was "old" and she was adjusted to the baby and everything. She woke up one morning and i said "we cant wear diapers anymore so what do you want? underwear or to be naked? so she said "underwear" DD was VERY verbal, which is the key thing for training(not really age) since they have to be able to say when they have to go to the bathroom. anyway..it took 1 week for "pee pee' training and 2 weeks for "poop" bottom line, kids are ready when THEY are ready to train, you can encourage them until its the right time. most kids are 3 when they are trained. i dont think you are doing the wrong thing by waiting...especially with baby #2 on the way! it ends up being a stressful thing if you try when they arent ready. hope this helps!
