What age for drop off bday party?
How old are kids these days when you drop them off at a bday party?
Just curious.

Not until the kids were older but then we were friends with the parents and always just mingled with them.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
1st grade? Wow..
Mine's in 2nd and I can't imagine it. Nope. Odd since logically what's the big deal. I mean I let her do sleep overs. But I can't seem to wrap my mind around that. I don't see that changing soon. Maybe next year in 3rd but I don't really 'see' that happening either. LOL
Even now at her parties I let her go but I need to be in visual sight of her. If she goes missing for too long we stroll until we locate her (him one way, me the other) we don't interrupt her but we like to 'see' her.

What age for drop off bday party?
2nd grade around here but DD is in 3rd and I still stay. A few other mothers do too but we stay out of the way and just hang out with each other. I don't expect to be offered anything (like pizza or cake) from the party.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
My DD is in first grade and I would never drop her off at a party. Way too young.

What age for drop off bday party?
I think if the party is at a public place, more parents stay. If it's at home, then more do drop-off. At home, there might be fewer kids invited, so it's just like a bigger play date. It seems that the drop-offs started in 1st grade.

My 9 year old and 6 year old both get dropped at house parties, however for public places I stay for both of them.

What age for drop off bday party?
MY DS is in 1st grade and a few invitations this year said drop-off optional. Personally, we can't let him be dropped off b/c he has food allergies and I wouldn't put that responsibility on anyone (nor do I trust them to be diligent unless their child also has food allergies).

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
Around 2nd I noticed it starting. For me, I drop or stay depending on the location and how much supervision they will be. Like, if it were a party at Dave and Busters, then Im staying.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
DD has a bday party coming up. They are in K. I know the mom from girl scouts and we've talked at events. One other mom I'm very friendly with, her kid is going. I assumed I was staying until she text me and said to drop her off at 4 and pick up at 630. So I guess that answers my "am I staying" question. I told her I'll be free if she needs help lol. I mean she lives a few blocks over and I know she'll be fine lol. But I don't know if I'm ready lol.
DD just had her first drop off play date (at the mom I'm very friendly with) and when the mom and I were talking my dd kept asking me when I was leaving. Does she really want her independence at 6? lol

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
K. We left DS at a public place (nature center). I would be more hesitant to do drop off at a home.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
For me it depends more on the place. If it's at a home then I'm fine to drop off because I feel like they have it under control and the last thing they want to do is entertain parents in addition to the kids. I will also drop off at movie parties because I wouldn't want the parents to have to pay for me and they will all be together as a group. If it's at a public play place, like a Chuck E Cheese or Children's Museum, then I'll stay.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
DS is in 1st grade and I always stay. I don't think he's old enough to be left and honestly, there are like 20 kids at these parties...that's too many for the few sets of adult eyes that are there. I'd rather be there and be able to watch him and make sure he's not getting into trouble or anything.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
I owned a store that did children's parties. We recommended it as a drop off for all children 5 and up because the store was not large enough to accommodate a large group of children and a parent for each of them. Most parents were thrilled with that but if they weren't, of course we let them stay. A typical 5 year old that does not have any special needs is usually find for 2 hours under the supervision of party staff.

Re: What age for drop off bday party?
I just read the responses now after posting my own response. I think that there is a large difference between the way FTWMs and SAHMs handle this situation. I always found that SAHMs have drop off play dates from way earlier on that FTWMs. I think that it's a comfort thing because you are spending so much more time in people's homes and so is your child. You both become more comfortable with it from an earlier age. We do drop off playdates starting as early as 3 where I live! I think that's also why I am not reluctant to drop my children at birthday parties (as long as it's okay with the host) and at holiday vacation camps etc. I wouldn't drop my child at a place like pump it up or bounce u where they might potentially get hurt but if it's an arts and crafts studio or science center or something more controlled I have no problem with it. So the same holds true with birthday parties.
