What am I doing wrong here? Burping question.
When I burp the lil miss, she often spews out from her nose as well as her mouth. She doesnt seem bothered by it, it just doesn't seem like its really supposed to happen all that much.

It happens to Anthony from time to time. The new thing I am trying that seems to be working is to wait a minute from when you remove the bottle (or breast, i guess?) let her sit for a minute so it goes down, then burp her.

After every feeding. Sometimes it comes like gangbusters. Other times, it takes a lifetime to get anything out, she gets uncomfy and borderline hysterical. We got Mylicon for those times.

Ah. Thanks. I try not to pull her off the boob, but maybe I should.

Gavin does this too. It seems when I burp him he often spits up instead of burping. He is also unaffected by it.

Ah. Thanks. I try not to pull her off the boob, but maybe I should. I would agree. If she does not have latching issues, I would stop after several minutes and try to burp then.

Re: What am I doing wrong here? Burping question.
We had this problem as well with my son.. we were told that it is because he has a immature digestive system and we need to burp him longer and that we could use some gas drops to help if needed.. we just burped him for 15 minutes after and it hasn't happen since.

Re: What am I doing wrong here? Burping question.
I actually don't have to burp Eryk after BF'ing... he doesn't intake any air at all... with a bottle, I have to burp every 3/4 of an oz... he gets super-gassy... doesn't matter what bottle type...
maybe her seal around your nipple has an occassional gap? It could be that tilting her head by a degree or so might help her seal around you a bit better and help with the gas issue

Yeah thats what I am thinking I need to do. As for her latch, it is perfect. Our lactation consultant, who is a medical doctor said it was just fine and she was all up in there!!! I'd need a protractor if I were to try to measure the degree at which I hold her. I am not a "math person."

Rylan used to do this too. It never seemed to bother him so it didn't really bother me...plus I read something on here about it being common...lol.

DS used to do that too. I was always paranoid when it came out of his nose, but I asked the ped more than once and they told me it was normal. The nasal and throat openings were close together and sometimes it just happens. It stopped...I just don't remember when.

Re: What am I doing wrong here? Burping question.
Only time I burp Ryan after BFing is if he doesn't fall asleep. So maybe, once every couple of days. I just won't wake him to burp him, but he doesn't seem to have gas issues either.
Maybe you are burping too soon? Try waiting a minute or two to let some of it begin to digest. Or, maybe she is just over eating?

Re: What am I doing wrong here? Burping question.
I can't speak to the nose thing but as far as it taking a long time to burp her. My friend's girls were in the NICU and the nurses taught her a technique which she then taught me and i used it with her girls as well as my neice.
Hold the baby with her butt in your knees sitting up. Put one hand on either side of her right underneath her ribs and massage her sides almost like you are trying to make her dance-she will wiggle from one side to the other top to bottom. In my experience this makes every baby burp almost instantly! I don't know if I explained it well enough...
