What are good books to read to a 5 year old?
DS is going to be 5 in November and is going to start Kindergarten in September. He loves when I read to him before bed but I feel like we read the same books over and over again. What are some good books for a 5 year old? TIA!

I feel like we read the same books over and over too.
We have the Llama llama books, and the how do dinosaurs.... books. I also read him spiderman/ super hero books, because that's what he's into. He likes this book called "Googlie eyes" that we got at the book fair.
That's all I can think of right now. I could use some new ideas too.

My daughter just turned 5. She is really into David Shannon books and Jan Brett. They did a whole theme on Eric Carle in preschool. Some of the books she is beyond but there are some really cute ones like "A home for hermit crab" and "The tiny seed".

Re: What are good books to read to a 5 year old?
We read the magic tree house series last year - a good intro to chapter books. I like the Berenstein Bears (good moral lessons as well as longer sentences and paragraphs). I also wanted to read the. Winnie the Pooh series to him - mostly because I love them, but also because we'll see the movie this summer. In school Cole's teacher read longer classic chapter books - Trumpet of the Swan was his favorite.

My Pre-K'ers loved the Dinofours books...good moral lessons as well (sharing, not using words to hurt, time out, etc.)
Give a Mouse a ..... books
Dr. Seuss are good for the rhyming, etc. & the kids seem to love the silly words

Love all the Kevin Henkes books. My girls also love the Scholastic series, "If you..." If you Lived with the Iroquois, If you Traveled West in a Covered Wagon, etc... We also have several books published by Grosset & Dunlap, Who Was Walt Disney, Who Were The Beatles, Who Was William Shakespeare, etc. etc. Also Dr. Seuss and of course princess and fairy books!
Also, we go to the library about twice a month and I let them pick out whatever they want...
