Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
no real traditions other than
1.) we get up at 4am on black friday to hit the stores, it's a great bonding experience for me and my sisters! we love it!!!
2.) when we come home from shopping we put up Christmas tree and the whole family participates and then we sit around and decorate the inside and outside of the house!
it's alot of family fun and bonding time!

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
on thanksgiving we all cook together the night before, as corny as it sounds, cooking together is a great bonding experience...
usually on thanksgiving night we start to put up the Christmas& decorations..... THen Christmas eve we have the traditional italian fish dinner, midnight mass if my family isnt sleeping already from all the vino we drink, usually open gifts on the eve, and christmas day is kinda a laid back lazy day where we open some more gifts& just relax from the night before.
I guess you can say in an italian family tradition is based around food!

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
DH and I go see the tree in Rockefeller Center and take our picture in front of it and then put it on the tree. We do it every year. Somehow I keep growing in them...

My friend and I used to do that...but, now that we live in different states it's kind of hard to do...we got up around 5ish or 6ish though...I was exhausted by 1:00..

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
Thanksgiving week is spent in Hilton Head, SC with DH's family. It is a week long of relaxation on the beach & spending time seeing everyone (his uncles live in CT & TX). Then on Thanksgiving, the women cook a nice meal. This year is going to be amazing as DH's cousin is bringing his FW (no one has met her)
Christmas is just about togetherness. My DH & I decorate our house together & then I do most of my shopping with my mom. This is my first Christmas out of my parents house, so it is going to be weird in the am!

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
We have Thanksgiving at our house. After dinner and dessert, my family leaves, and DH's Family helps set up our Christmas tree (note, my familiy is Christian, his is Jewish, and it's his family that puts up the tree).
We always have Hanukkah the first night at his family and we eat a turkey dinner and then open gifts together, one at a time.
My family has Chinese for dinner on Christmas Eve and then opens gifts. We then have a big Christmas turkey dinner on Christmas Day at my mom's house.
Oh and DH and I throw a huge holiday party at our house the weekend before Christmas. This year is the third annual party!

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
My dh and I and my family always go for our christmas trees together.
We always have like 4 big nights out shopping where everyone goes their own way either in the mall or wherever and we then go out to eat afterwards.
On christmas eve, my dh and I exchange only our stockings with each other.
My sister and I still wrap gifts together on christmas eve while listening to z100's christmas carols.
On christmas day, we have breakfast at like 4 in the afternoon since we are opening gifts all day and the next day we have a big dinner at moms house.
This year I cant wait to start new traditions even though my daughter will be only 4 months old. We will start leaving cookes for santa again, I will read the night before christmas to her, and we will put baby jesus in his manger. All things that I grew up doing..I cant wait!!!!!!

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
We go pumpkin picking every year at the same farm & get cider & bread. This year we "resurrected" (our usual farm closed) an old family tradition (when we were one ) of going out to Cautchauge pumpkin picking & eating at the Fishermans Rest.
Christmas we go to the same place and get our tree but this year we're "resurrecting" my old family's tradition. We cut down a tree out east and go to the same place for dinner. I remember having so much fun w/ family & friends 25-30 of us would go every year. I want to do that for my kids some day.
Sadly its really just me & DH. My family stopped doing traditional stuff a few years ago and now they don't live here anymore. DH's fam is small & my MIL wouldn't let anyone touch her stuff anyway.

My landlord is italian and traditionally makes these with her daughters. Every year we "happen" to pass by and she always hooks us up with a plate full

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
The day after Thanksgiving we both have off but DH has a "turkey bowl" so that keeps him busy in the am but by the afternoon he is home and we try to gather all the Christmas stuff. That weekend we put up the tree and decorate.
The very last workday before Christmas, we have dinner at Tony's Di Napoli in NYC and then walk around looking at all the windows and the tree. We have done this for the past 4 years.
Christmas morning we make breakfast together and eat by the tree after we open our presents.

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
My DH's extended family we go up to CT the first week in Dec to cut down our Christmas Trees. We all meet at my in-laws for bagels & coffee and then a caravan (usually about 8 car fulls) head up to CT. At the farm we take a hayride to cutdown the trees, then have hot cocoa & hot cider. On the way home we go to Pizzeria Uno in Fairfield for lunch.
Since my parents got divorced & my dad remarried and we spend Christmas morning with my mom we have "Family Christmas" the eve of Christmas Eve with my dad & my stepmom. Now that I am married and my sister is engaged our SOs come too, so it is the 6 of us. We go out for a really nice dinner and then we go back to my dad's and open our gifts. It is really nice to have this quiet time together.
With my mom's side of the family - aunts, uncles, cousins, we do a secret santa. We pick the names at Thanksgiving and give them on Christmas Day. It is always a lot of fun and we do many funny gifts.
My mom and I take a day off from work and have a "Shopping Day". We meet at the Trumbull Mall in CT and go shopping all afternoon and do lunch.
Finally every year DH and I have a large cocktail party/open house for all of our family & friends. I started this before DH as a 'Trim the Tree' party. It is always a good time, I believe this will be my 8th year (only one w/o DH).

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
We now live all over so we really don't have any special traditions anymore- Other than going around the table on Christmas or Thanksgiving and telling everyone what was special about our year. This year we will be spending Christmas in LA with everyone so we will resurrect that tradition again.

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
Oh I thought of another one. I buy my DH an ornament every year with the year on it - that we hang on a special tree in our dining room.

Re: What are some special traditions you do for the holidays?
The one thing DH and I do is we spend Christmas Eve by ourselves and go out to dinner. Christmas Day is all the usual family fun, but it's nice to have that one night for ourselves. Once we have kids, it will be a different story!
