What are you getting DC for the holidays?
Just looking for ideas since I know family members are going to start asking for ideas very soon.
I know Fijits are hot but DD doesn't want one. The only thing she's asked for is a Lalaloopsy Silly Hair doll.
DS wants the hot wheels track that attaches to the wall and Star Wars toys.

American Girl doll and some accessories. Target has some really cute knock off clothing sets, so I bought the ice skating and bowling ones. Xia Xia crabs, and beyond that not sure. Not doing a lot of toys this year though!

Books, DVDs, and maybe a Barbie. She doesn't even play with the toys she has so I see no reason to add more to the mess.

Re: What are you getting DC for the holidays?
DD wants everything in the world --- if you asked her it would be such a long list!
We will be getting her a DS...we will ask family members to get her things llike the accessories for it and games.
She also got an American Girl about 2 years ago and there are still plenty of accessories for that that she is asking for.
And we are going to be just like my mother and get her socks and underwear for her stocking --- GALORE! I swear the kid is growning too fast!

Re: What are you getting DC for the holidays?
I'm trying to stay away from toys this year too...last year I went crazy w. etsy toys - there are so many cute ideas.
This year I'm going w. this book I happen to pick up at the library called playful learning. It's all about play spaces that are educational.
Like for her birthday this Nov, we bought a desk from craigslist (50s school desk) and then I am purchasing (idea from the book) all things she can use to start letter writing to family members (near and far). So I have to print up return address labels for her online, then myself I'm going to print address labels for our family members - since she doesnt know how to spell yet- and put the labels in a coupon organizer or something like that. I went to the dollar store today and bought all notecards, envelopes, stickers, stamps, stapler, etc. I'm hoping that this starts a correspondence between her and people in the family. She can send them pictures she drew and they can write back a little note. I really think she's going to love it. In the book they said if they cant read to print a little picture of the person and put that on the outside of the big envelope that contains all the address labels, but she's starting to read so I think that wont be a problem.
For christmas I'm doing an art center and buying googly eyes, fabric swatches, ribbons, etc etc. Then using a empty drawer to put all the containers of art supplies in so she can make mosaics, macaroni pics or just whatever when it pleases her.

Thanks all!
Beth - the writing stuff is a really cute idea. I may have to steal that, she loves writing. We even have a 50's school desk in the garage I've been dying to have refinished. This is the perfect excuse for it!

Re: What are you getting DC for the holidays?
I put it together yesterday - love it!! I actually wound up using like a hanging organizer - its a shoe one, but I'm going to get a jewelry one when I do the art center
and I hung it in my front hall closet, but I'm debating hanging it on my pantry door instead. I can't wait to show it to her...the first two pockets have return address labels and stamps, the next 4 or so pockets have all the address labels for her to send mail out, then the rest of the pockets have all envelopes, fall themed note paper, paper clips, small stapler, tape, stickers, stamps, post it notes, ruler, glue sticks, small clipboard-- basically I went crazy at the dollar store and got all their office/teaching supplies. At the bottom I got their boxes of 20 christmas cards for $1, opened those up and stuck them in so she can send out those too. She already has her paper and crayons and markers so I think we're all set.
I read too, that if you can give the people (or they can get it) colored envelopes...like Great Grandma always sends her letters back to DD in red envelopes...then when the mail comes she can see right away its hers (and again doesnt necessarily have to read)

My DS loves his Nintendo DS, so i'm sure I will be getting him lots of games. He also is obsessed with the movie "cars" so I will be getting him lots of "lighting mcqueen" items.

Re: What are you getting DC for the holidays?
I just ordered Barbies 3 story dream townhouse that is on my DD's Santa list. It's on sale at Amazon for $137....what a bargain
As others have said, my girls want everything so anything I get will be a hit. I did some Target clearance shopping over the summer so I have some things squirreled away in the attic---not that I remember what they are.
