What are you getting for the teachers at DS's daycare/school for the holidays?

DS is 1 and in daycare 5 days a week. there are 5 teachers and they are all really great with him. What do you get them for the holidays?

Gift Cards?
Candles?
Money?

I'm getting this for DD1's nursery school teachers, though I got something similar for her daycare providers last year plus a GC:

I just picked up these for DD's floaters. Her main teacher will get one and $50-$100 cash.



The best part was that they were already wrapped in celophane and had a little gift tag!! Score. I'm done.

ETA: They are on sale for 2 for $30 this week. You can print the $10 off $30 or more. I got them for a little over $13 each.

We are always talking about fashion and clothes so her two main teachers are getting gift cards to FOREVER 21.

As a former daycare provider I will tell you they are underpaid for what they do. We always loved gift cards and or money. One year I got movie tickets which I thought was really nice.

I'm a teacher and I don't get many gifts but my faves are simple things...D&D or Starbucks GCs, tree ornaments are nice too

I think I'm going to go with gift cards- DD or Starbucks or something like that. I work in the school, I'm a music therapist, and I always love getting GC's as gifts!

i think i'm doing ornaments for the two ladies that watch DD. I might do something else too, but not sure what yet, maybe candles.

Director, Assistant Director, & Administrators (2) - getting a subscription gift from Barnes & Noble (has about 40 magazines to chose from)


Lucas' Head Teacher & Assistant Teacher - amex gift card and hopefully a scarf if Gap has their sale again

Lucas' Breakfast Room Assistant - amex gift card

Lucas' Evening Assistants (2) - amex gift card and philosophy set

Gregory's Head Teacher & Assistant Teacher - amex gift card and hopefully a scarf if Gap has their sale again

I hope so!

Definitely a bigger hit this year with two in daycare but if I stick to my budget all around it should be okay...and of course well worth it. For all that I pay to daycare...not enough of it goes into these teachers pockets in my opinion.

We have our little glitches here and there but there are more days than not where I see how much they care for my children and go over and above. The know I work in Manhattan and they help me out big time getting me out in time to catch my train and watching out for both boys when they are sick and I am trying to get to LI from Manhattan.

Ok, this helps... GC's sounds good. How much do you give them for usually?

Maybe i can do 5 $20 GC's to DD or SB's and then maybe a candle each? or since iw ork in the city i can pick up 5 of those pashmina's they sell, or is that cheesy? I want to get them something they will like and use. Siince DH lost his job things have been rough but since they tale care of the most important person in my life i want to make them happy...

Plus when do you give the gift??

I had posted something about amounts last week and people tend to give between $50-$100 for the main teacher and less for assistants.

I'm torn because DS has 2 main teachers, 1 early teacher (who was also his infant room teacher), and two late teachers (one was also with him in the infant room).

He loves his infant room teachers, and since they have been with him as March, I feel like I want to give them something as nice as the two teachers in his current room (we never see them - I met one once at the Halloween party since we drop off early and pick up late).

I was thinking a giftcard and something from Bath and Body Works (probably hand soaps).

I plan on handing out gifts early in the week of 12/20. I will hand some out on 12/21, since that's DS' b-day and I plan on going in for a little party for him.

The rule of thumb I go by it a week pay split between the caregivers.

Last year my DS and DD went to same school - 4 caregivers - $100 cash each and $20 DD giftcares. ($500 week - daycare)

This year they go to two different schools - 7 caregivers - $60 each - and a basket for each school (fruit, or cookie, or coffee, etc) (still pay $500 week - daycare)

It is so worth ever penny! My kids are is great hands when they can't be with me and I cut back on other gifts so I can make sure they are taken care of.
