Re: What are you reading right now??
I'm reading "The Eight" by Katherine Neville. It takes place during the French Revolution, and involves a chess set once owned by Charlemagne, said to have incredible powers, and was buried piece by piece in an Abbey in France. The nuns are forced to flee the Abbey, some of them taking the pieces with them in order to keep the enemy from finding them.
The story also takes place in the 70's and that's the part that I'm up to. So far, so good! Very engrossing and well written.

Re: What are you reading right now??
I need ideas for my next book, so I'm bumping this up...
Right now I'm reading "Girl's Night Out", its a collection of short stories by female writers including Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Weiner, Meg Cabot plus 18 more. Profits go to the Charity War Child which protects children in the Democratic Republic of Congo - there is info on the charity in the beginninig of the book. While its a great cause and a great idea, I don't really like the book. Maybe its the short story genre in general that I don't like, I'm not sure.

Re: What are you reading right now??
Just finished Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding- a Bridget Jones-esque character who finds herself involved in spy intrigue. A great read, if you like chick-lit- lots of intrigue and fun. Definitely would recommend it.
I also just finished Don't Let's Go To The Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood by Alexandra Fuller. If you like memoir or are interested in post-colonial African you'll love this book. It was so well written and Fuller is in her mid-30s now so it was interesting to read how her childhood in the 70s and 80s compared to mine. Highly recommended.
I just started The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. So far, very interesting.

I'm on a bit of a Nicholas Sparks kick. I just finished reading The Notebook yesterday, and started The Guardian today.
Were they very sad books? I saw The Notbook movie, and cried. Don't know if I feel like being sad.
The Notebook was sad, but I didn't cry as much as I thought I would. I cried more while reading Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas.
I don't think I've gotten far enough into The Guardian to cry yet.
I think the first 10 pages of the guardian had me bawling!!!

I am reading The Historian now and have a long way to go to finish it.
I have been working on this one for a few weeks now! It's been good but I am finding that I can only get through a chapter or so in one sitting. I need to give it a lot of concentration.

I agree, you have to read it in pieces. Right now I am taking a break from it to read "The Secret Life of Bees." So far it is a really good book.
