We have to use our personal days. Stinks but if that's the worst thing to happen in my life right now I'm pretty happy...

I had to use personal days. The guys I work with don't get personal days, so they just didn't get paid.

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
I am very fortunate that my boss pretty much lets me run myself and my own schedule. So it would never had been an issue. We have a very relaxed atmosphere with stuff like that.
Today I told him I want to work from home to save gas... he was fine with that. I can work from anywhere though really- what I do does not require me to physically sit in an office

Will that impact your maternity leave at all?

on the days we opened, you can use sick or vacation time for absences (they normally wouldnt let you use sick in a situation where you're not actually sick). they said they'd be lenient in terms of lateness but i havent been late.

The tone here is work, if you can. Come in, if you can. If you can't, take care of what you need to take care.

We are getting docked vacation days.
I'm not happy about it because there are people in my department who can work from home and did. If I was given that opportunity I would have. So they get paid and I get days taken out of my vacation bank, even though it wasn't my fault I couldn't get in.

Same. Although I can say there is definitely tension with some people who feel like all the work is being put on their shoulders if certain people in their eyes are "refusing" to come to work, when they know those people are at home with power and heat.

Yeah I can imagine.
I'm remote and able to work although most of what's going on does not involve me so my work load is pretty light. I am still covering for two other colleagues who have not returned to work yet. My office won't be accessible for another 2-3 months and I'm in a non-crit role so I won't get a seat in another office so fast. My boss is fine with me remoting for now. My other choice is our Westchester or Harborside locations but even that is getting full.

No, I wasn't planning to use any vacation or personal time for that. I just won't be able go worker shorter hours as I had planned, but these things happen...

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
The company's policy is use your PTO even if there is no power/heat in your buidling. I heard it's perfectly legal for them to do that. Luckily my immediate supervisor is cool with us working from home but it does have to be documented.
But, starting Monday, I feel I have to make an effort to get in, even if it's using public transport. We don't have an indefinite work from home policy.

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
Not penalized if you could not come to work, or come in late or leave early.
Even if they did, it's my own safety and sanity that I care about. Long commutes and I want to get home at a reasonable hour. Most management lives in Manhattan, so they don't fully realize what the rest of us have to deal with. For some stupid reason, they like to see bodies in the office, yet we are fully capable of working from home.

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
They are also not penalizing us. If you can make it to work great, if you can't also fine. We have a lot of people who live in New Jersey and out East so they have been very understanding. I'm sure it will only be this week..Come Monday, I'm sure they will require for you to use sick, vacation or personal days if you can't make it in. I'm very lucky to work in such an understanding company. I made it in yesterday and they were kind of upset that I did since I'm 28 weeks pregnant.

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
I'm remote. We're expected to do what it takes to work. Some people are working by plugging into car batteries. But generally if we have to miss a day or so due to no power, they're understanding.
Our phone system was down all day Tuesday so we basically couldn't work. I did some administrative work and then took a nap.
Now most of my clients and potential clients have no power so this whole week is kind of a wash

We are working out of a satellite office and rotating days. There's only three of us, and we are not being penalized since we closed mon-weds and now have a plan.

I am getting my pay docked for Tuesday because my company doesn't offer sick or personal days, and I haven't been here long enough to accrue vacation time yet. I worked from home Wednesday and yesterday so I won't lose pay (thank goodness!!).

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
My school is still closed. DH's job told people to come in 10 am (instead of the usual 8:30) on Wednesday. He went but then they just said he could go home...he left at 11:30. He has a lot of vacation days to use so he tried to take one and they said, "absolutely not, we're not docking a day, just go" He worked a regular day yesterday and today...they are even giving him a $250 hurricane bonus. I was actually surprised at the bonus, wasn't expecting that. They were closed Monday & Tuesday but he wasn't penalized and still got paid. (He works in finance for a very large bank)

Same - we only got power at work yesterday afternoon...
Tone is - if you cant come in (due to no gas) and have power, work from home..
If you can make it in, please do so.

We were supposed to work tomorrow to make up a day but b/c of the gas shortage and lack of public transportation, that was postponed.
My PTO doesn't carry over until next year so I still have 5 vacation days and 5 sick days left. I'd much rather be given the option to use one of those.

Re: What are your companies doing as far as excusing absences and lateness?
I work for a PR agency, so most of our time is billable. For the people in the NY office who haven't been able to work remotely, they were told to bill all time to an internal admin code.
All of our offices nationwide are affected by the storm because all of our email and file servers are based in NY. No one is being penalized for not being able to work or be productive. Most of our clients have been very understanding and flexible.
There is still no power in our office building, so another subsidiary of our company is letting them use a conference room. Those who are able to get to mid-town are going there to work. I've heard other people who live in NJ, Brooklyn or LI that have power opened their homes for other people to work from.
