Re: What are your predictions on what is going to happen to the economy?
I want to be optomistic, but it's hard.
I recall recently hearing that the interest rates were going to frozen for a few months, to see how the economy "reacts" to recent decreases.

IMO there is more trouble to come, we've got a mad cowboy in the white house spending TRILLIONS of dollars that we don't have fighting a "war" we can never win. At some point when he is gone we are going to have to face the financial repercussions of that. We are on the brink of another major energy crisis with no real plan break our country's addiction to oil. Russia is gearing up to fight, basically to show the rest of the world that they are powerful again. We haven't heard a peep out of that nutjob in Korea but I highly doubt he gave up on all of his ideas. Isreal is a warzone everyday & it doesn't even make the paper here anymore that journalists, women & children are getting killed there daily. Our dollar is becoming the new Peso(even with its glimmer of hope lately). We are still love buying cheap crap from China even though we know its covered in lead or whatever else, all while their country becomes more powerful & our manufacturing industry fades away.
Its a friggin mess and it will take a little more than people here getting bailed out of their mortgages or paying off their debt to solve our problems.
I agree, and on top of that, there is much talk about payroll taxes being raised by the new president to pay for this war/ debt.If our taxes were raised I know many people's situations would get worse.

I don't know.
Still takes me forever to find a parking spot at Roosevelt Field.
We still have to wait 2 hours to eat at Cheesecake Factory on Saturday night.
And I STILL had to wait for slot machines in Atlantic City.
You'd never know our economy is sinking by the looks of things.
OMG this is so true. If the economy is really that bad you can't tell by looking. I still see lots of cars on the road...the malls are still packed etc etc. Honestly I think the worst is yet to come and many people are just turning a blind eye. It's scary

You'd never know our economy is sinking by the looks of things. yup, my thoughts exactly! we were at the source mall and Cent 21 yesterday and it took forever to find any parking. everytime I go to the Tanger outlets its MOBBED!!! we waited 45 minutes for a table last night at Saviano's (just a local pizza/restaurant). DH and I usually eat out between 5-6 on Saturday's b/c we don't want to wait an hour for a table.
it's very hard to tell around here that the economy is bad

Re: What are your predictions on what is going to happen to the economy?
My DH is an economist and he thinks we are already in a recession.
That said, I agree with others who have said that it's cyclical. And I feel lucky that although things are getting more expensive, we both have recession-proof jobs and don't have to worry the way others do.

Re: What are your predictions on what is going to happen to the economy?
I have heard an expression that I would like to share....
"When people are cryin' it's time to start buyin'"
This is SO true. I think investors and people with money stocked away for a rainy day are waiting a little while to see if we are at rock bottom yet, but once we show signs of some improvement people are going to start buying more real estate, and stocks, etc....
DH and I have some real estate investments and we have already spoken about what a great time it is to look and possibly buy another property while the prices are down and interest rates are low. This will be a trend that I think will help the economy in the near future.
