What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

I love hearing about other people's traditions!

We always have Italian Wedding soup and chicken soup with orzo before the meal. Both homemade by my Nana.

Then, we make what we call "The Martha". The Martha is a turkey cooked as per Martha Stewart. We've been making it this way for 13 years. You dip cheese cloth in melted butter, dress the turkey with it, then baste it with melted butter mixed with maple syrup. It's quite honestly the greatest thing I've ever tasted. But it's tradition now that our turkey is always named MarthaChat Icon

Then, we spend a good amount of time after dinner arguing over how we will exchange gifts for Christmas. For example, should we do a grab bag? A white elephant? A buy for everyone type of thing, etc. Now, mind you, we ALWAYS do a grab bag, however, it's become tradition to spend a half hour arguing our points as to which is betterChat Icon

And last, but certainly not least, my dad on EVERY Thanksgiving takes out his professional grade jewelry cleaner and cleans everyone's jewelryChat Icon Don't even ask, I have no idea how this is tradition but it comes after dinner, but before dessertChat Icon Chat Icon

So tell me yours!

Re: What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

the jewelry cleaning thing is so funny! (and helpful!)

We also have a weird one that I have no idea how they got started. we always make margaritas on Thanksgiving. I have no idea why! We never make them in the summer, just Thanksgiving!

We also always play Cranium after dessert.

Also today, we decided to do a 5k and now want to do it every year.

we play trivia pursuit...we've been doing it since the game came out. This year we had 7 kids under 7, so it was more just reading questions and seeing who knew the answer.

As kids, we used to make a big deal singing "feliz navidad" in the car ride.

Re: What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

We put everyone's name in a hat and pick one. There's a table set up in the kitchen with Christmas ornaments (usually wood or ceramic), paint, glitter, ribbon, bows etc. Everyone has to make an ornament for whomever's name they picked. When we sit for dessert.....we give the ornaments to each other as the 1st new one of the year to go on our trees. We started this the year my DH moved to NY and I LOVE it!!!Chat Icon

Well, it's a day after, but it's still tradition...
We decorate gingerbread cookies with icing. We have been doing it for MANY years and started with my Grandma. We then hand them on the wall and kids in the neighborhood come pick one and eat it Chat Icon
