What are your thoughts on this?

Don't flame me.

I have been self quarantining since 3/13. My parents have been self quarantining since 3/17 other then periodic trips to the grocery store. The wild card is my DH. He is an essential worker. He is in an office with 3 other guys but they have been social distancing. He's also not in his office all day. He has to do travel to outdoor work sites all day long.

My mom offered to take my boys for the weekend to give me a break. Would you let them go?

Also, I don't know if this information matters when giving your response, but I had a direct exposure on 3/3. By chance, I spent the evening with my mother on the same day as the exposure. Neither of us exhibited any symptoms.

As tempting as it would be, no I don't think I would do it. God forbid your children are carriers but asymptomatic and infected your parents... I just don't think I would take that risk.

What are your thoughts on this?

Nope. While we’d all love a break I just don’t think any added chance is worth it.

I have friends with it and have had one death and another person is not going to make it. I am the last person to go overboard but I’m not messing around with this one.

No. Your child could potentially vector something to your parents if your DH cannot isolate.

I agree with everyone else. Sorry

If you need a break maybe take a ride down by the water somewhere and take a walk around. Take a book and just sit in the car by the water. Or take a hike. I know it's not the same as the whole weekend. But getting out by yourself even for just a few hours can do wonders.

What are your thoughts on this?

Nope. I would be concerned for my parents. Your children could be carriers and I wouldn't want to be the reason my parents got sick. Just lock the kids in the basement and throw some food down for them every so often (just kidding - kinda lol).

I would not let them go. It is not worth the risk. They are doing a population study in Iceland and the number of confirmed cases without symptoms is mind blowing. Stay safe. The more we distance now the sooner this will pass.

I'm just curious how this will pass.
If tons of people are walking around carrying it with no symptoms, what is going to change that to make it safe to go out and be together again?

Lets say you stay away from each other for 6 months even- at the point you go back out around each other, won't it just start up again? People who don't have symptoms passing it around?

But as to the original topic, I agree, she shouldn't send her kids right now.

I'm just really curious to know how they think this will ever go away.

To answer the original quesiton, I wouldn't mostly because the kids could have picked it up from their father & be carriers.

Regarding it when it will pass- I am also wondering if you have it & don't have symptoms, for how long are you contagious? If you get it, they say a week after symptoms end, but do you just develop antibodies & become no longer contagious if you don't have symptoms?

From what I have read, once the curve has been flattened, restrictions can slowly start to be lifted, one at a time. Dr. Fauci has said, even if there is a second wave, which he says there will most likely be, they will have a better handle on how to manage it. He doesn't anticipate this amount of extreme social distancing will be needed during the second wave, which people are saying will be this fall.

And also, I would imagine, that for a second wave more people will have antibodies to it so maybe that's it too.
Hopefully.

I wish I could do that but I am just swamped. I am working 7 days a week now. I'm doing the google classroom BS with my older son because he can't do it by himself. Then I'm dealing with my little two that need something constantly...whether its a snack or supervision. I'm trying to work which is a total shit show. The minute my ass hits the chair someone is having a crisis requiring mommy intervention. I try to work when my DH gets home but it is really hard to start my work day at 5 pm. And then there's dinner. F*%!ing dinner. I am so resentful of dinner I can't even logically explain it. Because there is no logic. That makes no sense. But it's how I feel. eAt a bag of chips. IDGAF. Just leave me alone! I don't want to think about it and I sure as shit don't want to make it. I can't meet my work requirement during the week so now I am behind and have to work all weekend to catch up when DH is home.

Sorry for my ranting. We are all in the same boat. And FTR, I am not making effing dinner tonight. I am NOT.

WHY are you asking on here? You knew you'd be flamed. You HAD to know that.

As for me, its a crap idea. But I hired a babysitter because I don't really want to lose my job and I also don't want my kid to escape the house due to lack of supervision. So who am I to judge?

Eh I don't think I got flamed. I think people were nicely telling me not to be an idiot and I appreciate that. LOL

I thought about a babysitter but I don't know who I could get for the same reasons as not sending them to my parents. I may have to ask DH to start taking days off here and there to help me out.

I got a private preschool teacher who is off and isn't being paid. She stays home except for coming here and we haven't been anywhere.

It's been a lifesaver.

Re: What are your thoughts on this?

As someone with family members (not in my house) who have the virus, nope. It’s pretty bad. Even ones who I have never seen sick are too sick to talk on the phone (bad headache, throat on fire). But I understand needing the break. It’s very hard. We have been home with my 3 boys (8 and under) and I had a bad meltdown last night right before bed. I am spent the minute I wake up until bed. There is no break. DH and I are both working remotely and my kids are not independent in school work and 1 has special needs (I won’t even get into teletherapy for him as that’s a whole thread in itself).

Re: What are your thoughts on this?

i probably wouldn't let them mostly for their sake.

I have being toying around the idea of visiting my parents since my dad most likely has it and my mom obviously was exposed once everyone is better since they say you should have antibodies once you have it. I figured then we wont be risking them if we do have it and dont know but I probably wont. Mostly because they wouldnt test my dad for it even though his dr said he had it but wouldn't send him for tests. Its not worth the risk since i dont know and even if I did i dont know if i could still bring them there.
