Re: What are your thoughts on VBAC's...

I am absolutely not a candidate for a VBAC if I have another child. I just wish there was not so much animosity between moms who believe in it and moms who do not. I am not referring to this thread because this thread has been fine.

I really cannot even consider it and it's not just a matter of my own personal opinion. It would be nice if people who ask me about that would believe me. I would be shocked if I met a doctor who would support it in my situation.

There are a lot of misconceptions about VBACs and the risks tend to be greatly exagerated, while the risks of repeat C-sections are down-played. Most doctors don't want to do VBACs because it requires them to be in the hospital for most of labor in case you need an emergency C-section and they can't use pitocin -- which they all seem to love so much. If you are interested in VBACs do some research on your own to get a more accurate understanding of the risks/benefits to see if it's right for you.

Thank you for posting this. I think the risks are highly exagerated, but I speak also from the point of having HAD a successful VBAC.

My first was a c/s because he was breech. I had the best recovery, no problems, no drugs during recovery, was walking around the next day. Textbook case - very happy.

Then I was home with a 2 year old and didn't want to have major surgery, on top of being away for 4 days. I know its fast, but since I was the perfect candidate for a VBAC, I went for it. Absolutely 100% the best decision I ever made.

I do not fault anyone for their decision not to go for one, as each and every pregancy is different and there are many, many issues that dictate what's best for the mom and baby. I do however wish that the misconceptions surrounding vbac's wasn't so negative. That's just my 2-cents. c/s are wonderful too, I had one Chat Icon

To all the pregnant momma's, best of luck in your decisions Chat Icon
