What did you all do/or plan to do for you children's 1st bday?
Starting to think about what we are going to do. Ideally a backyard BBQ would be nice.
Can you all tell me what your did, where you had it and how many people you invited? Did you invite friends/family, just family? Did you invite everyone who had kids only?
I have heard so many different things....
Thanks!

Im already planning ahead. We are going to do a backyard BBQ, because we have the space for it and it will be a Backyardigans theme. That is their favorite show. We are going to have family, friends and their kids, not sure how many people yet.

Re: What did you all do/or plan to do for you children's 1st bday?
DD's 1st birthday was the beginning of May.
We did a backyard BBQ at my IL's house. We had about 40 people, close friends and family only. I rented tables and chairs. We had hamburgers, hotdogs, ziti, sausage and peppers and lots of side dishes.
I did a girly theme-hugs and stitches-we had butterfly's, daisies and pink/purple theme, no character's, DD doesn't watch TV nor have a fav character.
I didn't do favors, nor have entertainment. I wanted to save money for birthdays she is really going to enjoy and remember.
She had fun and so did everyone else

DS's 1st b-day is in August. We are having a lunch out with just the immediate family (which is about 30 people) and having a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme for the invites, etc.

For Jack we had a tailgate with family at a Notre Dame Football game...for Molly...she will be one in Oct, I think I will have a party at home with family and friends.
I'm not planning on any favors or entertainment. Rather we are going to take the kids every year to Great Wolf Lodge in Oct (Jack is Oct 19 and Molly Oct 25) for their birthdays. We live about 10 minutes from the one in Ohio.

Re: What did you all do/or plan to do for you children's 1st bday?
DOH, I misread.
I had my first's party at the Queens County Farm (rented the Pavilion). Catered heroes and had sternos and the like. Obviously that was a "farm theme".
We rented the Wantagh VFW for #2's first and hired Little People Entertainment to do a puppet show, face painting, etc. Elmo showed up, too! I catered hot food from Iavarone Bros in Wantagh.
I had 60-70 ppl at each party.

Re: What did you all do/or plan to do for you children's 1st bday?
Both my kids 1st b-day's were small family only affairs. Just grandparents and my brothers and sisters and DH's brothers and sister (and kids if they have them). It was about 25 people total. We have it at our house and I cook all the food. Yum I am not into big huge 1st birthday parties, and neither is my DH. I tried planning a bigger party for my son's 2nd at a Gym, and it went well but I ended up missing it because I was sick.
ETA: my kids are 3 days apart in May, so from this May one, I only do one party for they both of them! Call me cheap!

I'm already combining the boys' family party this year and their birthdays are a month apart!
I don't think I'll ever combine their "kiddie" parties.

We rented out a dance hall, well, it was free cus of DH's best friend. It was mostly adults, so there were lots of food, food, food, and a huge life size tv of Nintendo Wii session going on.

DS's 1st bday was in December and I had it in my house. Just close family and friends. About 25 people. I catered in food, and that was about it. He was a crankmeister the whole time. Nothing big.

We will have it in the backyard in July. Catered food from a friend's restaurant (big discount!!). Nothing fancy, but lots of fun!
