what do you consider an $$ amount for dinner for two or three people?

Relatives were in from out of town this weekend and we went to eat to a local place and they thought the bill was extremely high for three people. i did not. i am not saying it was cheap but i wouldnt consider it to be THAT exspensive.

ETA .. it was about 112 with tip ( i think i didnt pay) .It was a local italian place in Douglaston, queens. We had no appitizers, 1 entree each. One dessert that two of us split and two people had exspressos. oh and two glasses of wine( total not each)

I think it all depends on the type of restaurant.

I'd consider $250 to be avg at a decent place.

Figure
$13 for app
$33 for entree
$20 for two drinks
$12 for dessert

Give or take a few bucks.

I think $100 for 2 or $150 for 3.

Re: what do you consider an $$ amount for dinner for two or three people?

It really depends on the restaurant.

Moderate would be $125 for 3.
Expensive would be $150-$200

that's if everyone ordered apps, entrees, dessert and drinks. If you add a bottle of wine, that's a whole other animal.

Thinking about the local italian restaurants by me, I would say that's about right.

While in NY $112 for 3 people and 2 glasses of wine isn't bad at all, I can see how someone from out of state could consider it to be expensive. We are just used to how ridiculously expensive everything is here.

I mean, every place I go, the average cost for a glass of wine is $10, when that same bottle of wine is about $15 in the liquor store. Chat Icon

Where are they from? If they are from some place where it's less expensive to eat out then it would be considered expensive.

Actually thinking about it now - I think that's a little on the high side for an Italian restaurant with those menu options but nothing outrageous. But I wouldn't think it was expensive when I got the check.

That sounds about right for a decent Italian restaurant in queens.

Agreed. If you were at a chain restaurant with $15 entrees, I'd say differently, but it sounds appropriate for the place you went.

Re: what do you consider an $$ amount for dinner for two or three people?

I think that is a good price for around here. But like someone else said, depending on where you are from it might seem high.

On the other hand DH and I spent about the same Fri night for the two of us, we shared an appetizer, 2 entrees, no dessert, 2 coffees! Oh and DH got a beer, but I am not drinking.

Re: what do you consider an $$ amount for dinner for two or three people?

For us I would say more like $75 would be a regular amount, but if you had drinks and dessert that explains it....we never do b/c we're cheapies! I think $112 for what you got is not super $$.

I think that w/all you got it was a good price. We rarely get apps or dessert or drinks other than soda we we never spend that much! Chat Icon

I think for what you got you did well. Compared to other states the prices are higher here though.
